• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

01 - Introducing Segment PRO!

You are the man! We ask a question and you've already thought it thru. Great software and getting better all the time. Since you were so good at answering that, will we be able to paint feature ring projects at some point?
Sorry. You can't ask a question while asking another question.

If I were to answer your question, though, the answer might be that when I work on the new Bowl Engine I will add the hooks to be able to draw rings from a Painted Segment design. It is not likely that this will be done in April, though, as it is a big re-design. I'll see what progress I can make, though.

Lloyd,
Have a question I hope I can explain clearly. I generally like to see a small disk when viewing the bowl interior, which also gives a smaller outside base diameter which I prefer. For example, 2" inner diameter. I have tried to do this when drawing the profile, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. The only way I've found is to increase the wall width which decreases the inner diameter of ring 2, and all rings. The outer diameter remains the same. Example the inner diameter is smaller with a 1/2" wall width than with a 3/8" wall width. But if I don't want to use a thicker wall I can't seem to get the small inner diameter of ring 2 that I want. Is there another way of of achieving this? I see if I have a steeper wall slope this does happen but if the slope is flatter it doesn't. Example a 4" height and 10" diameter results in about a 4" exposed interior base when finished. I would like it smaller.
Art, one way I have found to get the centre disk smaller is by reducing the thickness of the bottom disc. May not be the solution we want but you will see the size of the centre disc reduce as the thickness gets smaller. You do not have to turn the disc so thin but you can visually see the difference in the bottom of the bowl. I hope I am understanding your issue.

Thank you Lloyd for all the great software and stomper and great advice you have given me the last eight years. About time I thanked you.

Glenn, great tip, thanks. That what makes this forum great.

Watch your top ring though, you are reducing the height of your vessel. It way add an additional row at the top if your rows are thin enough

That is true Bob. As long as you are aware and watch the row count or your top row doesn't get added to it shouldn't be an issue. Maybe Lloyd could comment if there is a better way to use the software to keep the inside centre hole smaller???

The solution will be with the new Cutaway View where you'll be able to manually adjust the inside and outside diameters of every row. It's pretty much impossible to create an algorithm that creates an inside wall profile from the few dots that make up the outside profile - especially when you have to take the adjustment for transitioning from the lower rows to the base into consideration.

It is the 2nd item on the list. The first is a redo of the Summary Page that will make it possible to use newer technology to modify and reposition rows. This will also mean that I can make one grid that will be both for viewing and for printing and this will make a world of difference in the ability for me to make changes programmatically. I'm hopeful that this will only take about a week and then I'll get going on the Cutaway View.

Lloyd, I cant see everything on y screen without moving the sliders up and down and even then I cant see everything at the bottom like in your video. What should my resolution be set at? I tried everything and nothing worked.

At 900 vertical pixels, you can position the slider such that you can see all controls. Less than that and you have to use the scroll bar. A resolution of 1080 vertical pixels is optimal and is also the most common resolution of any new desktop or laptop.

I have been trying to figure out how to change the row height for the past two hours with no success.
Glad there is a change coming.
The change I have been working on for the Summary page has taken much longer than I had hoped and so the ability to change row heights will be delayed (I'm travelling to Australia and New Zealand meeting with customers next month). However, this feature was something I planned on adding much later in the year and I'm trying to advance it due to multiple requests. From the start, though, I have made it clear that certain features (such as making changes to default rows) are only supported in Woodturner PRO and that is still the case (see this link: Title: Differences between Woodturner PRO and Segment PRO). Segment PRO was never intended to be a clone of Woodturner PRO. It was designed to have a very simple interface to attract new people to segmenting. Adding the functionality like this, while very useful, adds to the complexity of the user interface which is why it was not part of the initial design.

Woodturner PRO is not going away as it has been sold more times than all of the other solutions combined and it is very powerful. It should be - it has been on the market for 16 years and has gone through countless upgrades. We are still on version 1.0 of Segment PRO and so I am just getting started on its advanced features. These will come as they come, though, unless I can get my only employee (me) to work much faster than he's working now.

Do you really want to take a vacation?

Lloyd just remember you need ALL this done by the first of June.
Should give you more than enough time. :)

I have to a presentation on segmented turning to the Northeastern Wisconsin Woodworks Guild in June
