Trouble with "palette"

I hit the "palette" tab in Segment Pro to try to create a new palette. I thought it went fine but apparently not. When I try to open any of my previously created plans, I get the message "one or more species is missing from a palette. Please click the palette tab and make sure all species have been selected." It's not clear to me what action I need to take at this point. None of my plans will open. Help!

DanSco is up and running again but if others read this, the error means that a palette has not been populated with 10 species and if that is the case, the software doesn’t know what to do about it. Make sure that all 10 spaces for species are filled and it is not a problem to have more than one space have the same species.

You first have to add them as Species. Find the image file you want to use as a species (smaller is better), name it with the name you want the species to be (Walnut.jpg, for example) and put it in My Segment PRO/Species (if you’re using Segment PRO). To add it to a Palette, click the Palette tab and double-click the Palette > Specie where you want to replace a specie and then select it from the list of species that comes up.

If you want to create a new Palette, click at the bottom of the palette list (it will tell you where to click) give your new Palette a name and fill ALL 10 species, it is OK to have the same species multiple times, but it is NOT OK to leave a species blank.

When looking for an image file to use as a species, I like to use an image of veneer. It’s usually the best image of that wood that you can find.

To add a new specie to Woodturner PRO, click File > Options and Add Custom Species and follow directions.

I would like to add a few new woods to my palette, such as white oak and alder. How do I go about this?

Hi Paul
The quick way to add a new species to SP is to place the jpeg (image) in the My Segment Pro / Species folder.
When you installed SP it should have created a folder in your Document folder called My Segment Pro along with 4 subfolders.
Species, Spreadsheet, Ringview and Price Quote.

After copying the species into the Species folder and starting SP you should be able to see the new species by clicking on the Species tab in SP. that should pull up all the species SP knows.

To use that species or make changes to a palette , click on the Palette tab to open the SP Palette.
- click on an existing pallete, (My Default for example) or click on the add new item to create a new palette.
- click on column (1-10) within the row you want to change. A drop down menu of all the species will pop up. scroll down and select the new species. It should add to the palette.

If you create a new palette make sure to fill out all 10 columns with species. If you do not SP will not work properly.
If you make changes to existing palette make sure all 10 columns have species.

This tutorial vid by Lloyd should be of help even though it is making featured ring in Lamination Pro.

Thank you for this information. I have some woods not listed and I wanted to enter them in my pallete. Between you and Lloyd I feel confident that I can now do this.
