I started on this bowl earlier this year and been working on and off on it.

Now when i last checked on it, the 3 rings i made must have come partly off in some way.

And if there are any experts on wood here, what kind of wood is this?
Its hard as a rock!20151210_132328[1].jpg

Can you post a better picture of the problem. It looks like you tried to insert branch rings that look like knots. If that is the case the cross grain glue up with movement probably failed. I can't help with the wood type.

How green / dry was the wood (top section) of your first photo? If it was green, it could be caused by wood shrinkage.

The segmente are from planka of oak ans pine. I used them before with out any problems. Gonna remove them anf replace them with something else. The rings are kind of oval now.

And now without auto-correct :)

The rings are made out of planks of oak and pine.
Took these photos now.20151213_182205[1].jpg20151213_182214[1].jpg

looks like the timber has move at different rates causing it to fail, when i am working on a project that i know isn't going to be a overnight job i alway put a finish on it at the end of a session to stop it taking on moisture and moving till i get to work on it again, maybe worth considering in future. As to what timber the log is i cant help sorry

I see now what you mean. I've had that happen when the rings were not dead flat. In effect the glue was acting as a gap filler and separated when it dried. It will also happen when gluing on a very thin ring without sufficient pressure or weight. The moisture from the glue can cause the thin ring to buckle.
