Base types

I'm new to segmented turning although not to turning in general. I'm working on my first design. What I'm not sure about are all of the base design types. I'm reading Malcolm Tibbets book and he discussed types of base designs but this software has more options and I'm not sure what all the styles physically represent. I can't find a viewing tool that will show me. If any of you could clarify this for me or point in the direction of information that will I'd very much appreciate it.

Most of my segment bowls have a solid base. I have not had any issues of separations of the base when the disk is kept to under 5" diameter.
More experienced builders of segment vessels will but in a floating bottom.

I have made a few with a segmented bottom but most of mine are solid bases.

I also tend to do most of my build/turning using a faceplate.

Attached are a couple of articles you may be interested in.

Not all of us are members. Any way for you to share the guide?
Lloyd is on the board of the Segmentedwoodturners. I think he would be a good one to determine if it is ethical to share something that was developed by and for dues paying members. I can’t make that call. Membership is only $25/yr. I can’t see why anyone interested in segmented turning wouldn’t want to join. It’s really a fantastic group of turners.
