What is best size Face plate 2 1/2, 3 1/2, or 4 1/2 to use for segmented turning

I think he's asking about face plates not face shields.

It depends on the size of the turning. Use a larger face plate for larger diameter turnings.

Ooops. I you are correct. I plead old age.

As far as faceplates. I have various sizes depending on what I am going to turn. As far as sources , do a simple google search. Amazon has some good deals on faceplates.

Sorry you can't blame it on Age. Arizona heat yes. I'm looking at doing small to med. size segmented turning. just bought 3 1/2" one to try.

That should do you nicely. I do have a 2 1/2. for smaller turnings. One thing to consider is your waste block can be bigger diameter than the faceplate to account for larger base vessels. One thing to consider is my waste block is made up of two parts. The bottom part which is attached to the face plate and a top piece that is glued to the bottom. I generally turn an indent and leave a 1" ring for gluing.
