• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Hi everyone. Just join the forum and looking forward in getting started in Segmented turning. I am starting to get some of my tools together and the next thing I was going to buy was a 12 inch disc sander. I looked from harbor freight to the jet. What do I need to look for when buying a sander for segmented turning. Thanks and looking forward to learning from this site.

Bob,
Welcome to the forum. You will find that accuracy is of upmost importance in segmenting, whether it is cutting lengths or sanding angles. Find a sanding setup that will be consistent and accurate for you. I have the Jet and like the stability of the table, accuracy of the disc runout and miter slots, and the ease of changing paper. Some will get a near perfect cut from the saw, and not sand at all.
Good luck and post some pictures of your projects.

Hello and welcome,

I'm also a newbie. In regard to a disk sander, I couldn't afford nor did I have room for a standalone sander in my little shop. I chose to make one as an attachment for my lathe. Here are some pictures.

The disk and table are MDF. I made the hub from some maple scrap added a plywood plate to attach to the 12" disk. I screwed and glued the plywood disk to the hub and glued the 12" MDF disk to the plywood. I faced the surface of the MDF disk on the lathe so the face runout would be minimized. The table is supported on two tool rest supports. It does not have a miter gauge groove. Total cost about $10.
