• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Species not updated in Summary or Cutaway

Hey, I've jumped into SP and am trying to get set up for my first bowl. It's not a deal breaker, but I'm puzzled why the species I used in the paint window aren't updated in the Cutaway View, nor in the Summary spreadsheet. They are correct in the Bowl View, however. I did not change any of the segment settings, yet my species choices aren't reflected in the other windows. I've attached the file for my bowl for inspection.

Thanks for any suggestions.

After painting a vessel, you reduced the number of segments. The software keeps track of these ‘zombie’ segments in the event that you change the number of species back to the higher number but it has side effects such as the Cutting Summary. It’s an easy fix. Click the Reset All segments on the paint screen and repaint. The Summary will now be correct.

I will be changing the software in the next release to simply delete the zombie segments. This will correct the Summary document but if you increase the number of segments after decreasing it, there will be unpainted segments. The best thing to do if you change the number of segments, you should also reset the segments. I won’t do this automatically because you may want to do a print screen before reducing the number of segments.

Lloyd, thank you for the quick reply. I have seen this explanation when I searched the forums for this issue, but unless I am misunderstanding a key aspect, I am still perplexed. I did change the number of segments to 16 from the default 24, but I painted the segments after that. I even tried the reset segments and repainted with the same result.

However, now that I've printed the Summary, I see that the right-side columns do indeed list the species. I was thrown off my the Species column in the Segment Ring section being blank except for the base disk. I guess that leaves only the Cutaway view not showing my selected species as a mystery.

It could just be something I haven’t seen before because I know that changing the number of segments without resetting causes problems and so I don’t do it. A newer user might not know this. I am confident that now that you know, you’ll not see this issue again. Also, when I release the next version, it won’t ever do it again.

Now that the weather is turning rainy again, I’ll be back to programming. I’m a fowl weather programmer because now that I’m retired, I use fair weather to do things I like more than programming - golf, travel, gardening, photography, etc.
