I was inspired by Chapter 10 in Malcolm Tibbetts' book (The Art of Segmented Woodturning, 2005, Fresno, Linden Publishing) to make this trio of hollow forms using compound stave construction. The tallest one (center) is 9" high x 4-3/4" diameter and is made of bubinga, ebony, and walnut burl with black-dyed and holly veneers. The one on the left is made of black limba, bloodwood, and camphor burl. The one on the right is made of birds-eye maple, ebony, and camphor burl. I made three for the same reason that Tibbetts did---it takes some time to set up for the compound staves so one might as well cut a bunch of them.
