Make sure you follow the current thread where Glenn is making the Eagle Bowl and has done a fabulous job of documenting his progress. Here is the link:

Here are some issues and answers, though. First, the magic of the eagle design happens Is that it makes a design where the Eagles wings are top to bottom, not left to right. The other thing to realize is that in the third generation, both of the strips that make up the repeating unit will contain one eagle - more to come on this in a bit. So you have to determine how wide of a segment you want and remember, the Eagles wings will be wide. You then have to make the Lamination PRO design to have a Clipping Region that wide because you will eventually cut the Eagles apart and rotate them 90 degrees to form your feature ring.
To keep the bowl a reasonable size, you are going to want to have no more than eight Eagles due to their width. The rest of the bowl should be a multiple of eight and sixteen segments is a good target. This will make a bowl of approximately 10"-12".
As I said, the third generation repeating unit will have two Eagles in it but the beak of one eagle will have tone cut off and glued to the the body without a beak. Lamination PRO will clearly show this, but it will be confusing unless you follow Glenn's photos closely.
If you want eight finished Eagles, make 12 and use the best eight. This means you have to make six third generation repeating units so use that to calculate the amount of lineal inches you'll need.
It will be best if you let me know the diameter of the feature ring you wish to make and I'll help you size the eagle.
You'll really enjoy making this and you'll be a far better woodworker when you're done.
