• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Variation on brick pattern

I'm not even sure how to describe the problem, so I'll just ask... how would you draw this in either WP, SP or LP? I just can't seem to come up with a solution to what seems like a pretty simple pattern.

I've attached a quick illustration of what I'm after.

Thanks!
Jack

Hi Jack.
To create the pattern you want I like to use WTP. WTP gives full control of each ring. To create the pattern you can:

- Create two new wood species and add them to WTP species library. One species with the bar on top, one species with the bar on bottom.
(see next post for more information)
- Select the ring you want the pattern and add vertical spacers.
- select a segment in the ring and paint every other segment with new species with bar on top. then select the next segment and paint with the bar on bottom.

The way I created the new species was using WTP and Iranfanview (a graphic software program / free)

- In WTP I added two rings above and two rings below the target featured ring. The four rings are set to the same thickness as the vertical spacer width. (1/8"). The top/bottom ring next to the featured ring I set to zero width. I also set the wood species to the same species as the vertical spacers (walnut).
The reason for the zero width ring is it allows the top/bottom ring to match the featured ring vertical line.
- Then it is just a matter of doing a screen capture, use a graphics program to crop the image.
Save one with top walnut bar and one for a bottom walnut bar.
- In WTP add the two new species.

You may need to restart WTP to get the new added species to show up in the drop down menu for species.

Windows 11 screen capture allows you to outline what you want captured and eliminates the need for the graphic program step.

Thanks for such a quick reply!!

I'll give it a try.

your welcome
One thing to keep in mind is when you use a custom built species that is based on a laminate. WTP only knows the segment height, not the height of each laminate.

Another idea is to build the segment laminate in Lamination Pro.

It is also fast and easy It can be exported directly to WTP
