Arrow Flask

Very nice vase. I like the color selection and shape. Segments look good and tight.

It is just my opinion but the vertical wide spacer in the feature detracts from the chevron/zig zag design. It still is a very beautiful vase. Great job.

I like the design. How did you cut the center pieces, if you don't mind me asking? I am trying to make a similar design but can't figure out what to use to cut the center piece.

Richard the ‘arrow’ is easy to make. You laminate 4 kinds of wood at various thicknesses but symmetrically i.e. the middle section (Paduak) is a single piece and those outside it is duplicated around it on both sides. Then cut the laminate at 45° and flip every second piece around before gluing the 2 pieces together. This gives you the arrow. After trimming off the points at the top and bottom of this new construction, cut the long sides (parallel to the pointing arrow) at 22.5° so that an 8-segment ring can be made if glued together as is. The dark wood is Imbuia and it was then glued on to one side of each of the pieces forming a ‘spacer’ after which they (8 pieces) were glued together to form the ring. If you have Lamination Pro it is easy to visualize on the computer.

Thanks. I'm still playing with the amount of sides I will be making it is going to be a large bowl or vase so I'm thinking maybe 30 segments. I know to cut the angle at 6 degrees, it's just what to use to cut the wood a miter saw or a table saw.
