To make a Lamination PRO design into a feature for Woodturner PRO you simply have to match a couple dimensions. First, the Segment Edge Length of the target row in WTP needs to be the width of the repeating unit in LamPRO. Secondly, the height of the ring in WTP needs to be the Clipping Region height of LamPRO.
Getting the width of the design is done by trial and error and is mostly controlled by the width of cut of the strips from the laminated board. Simply changing this measurement will make the design larger or smaller, obviously, but the pattern of the design remains the same. From an appearance standpoint, though, it might also be necessary to adjust the species widths in the Laminate Wizard.
When you transfer the design from LamPRO to WTP, it will show you the dimensions of the height and width and there is also a checkbox that tells the software to 'stretch' the image to fill the segment. If you check this box, though, the calculated geometry of the design is no longer valid. I often check this box, but only when I create a design (a diamond, for example) that I want to use generically so that I can see what a WTP vessel would look like with a diamond pattern.
You are familiar with the method of transferring the design from LamPRO to WTP directly, but you can also save the image to your disk drive and then add it as a custom species. To do this, export the image to a file from LamPRO and then go to WTP and go File > Options and select the 'Custom Species' option. Give the design a species name and then click the '...' to browse to the place where you saved the file. Give any height and width and then check the 'stretch' box. This will permanently add this design to your species list.
When you transfer a design directly from LamPRO to WTP, it is added to the species list for that plan only. It is saved in the .wtp file so that when you open it later, the design is still there. If you want it to be available in other plans, add it as a custom species as described above.
