I see that you can make every other segment in a ring as a different wood but I can not see were to ad the item in the software

Select "painted segments" in the bowl settings.
Also make sure that you set the number of segments you want per ring before painting the design.
Select Paint from the upper bar to bring up the paint window.
paint your design and when finished go back to bowl view.

oops. my mistake. I responded about Segment Pro when the question was for WoodTurner Pro.
In WoodTurnerPro you can "paint" a segment with a different species.
On the right side of the program there is a paint repeat per row. You can check in and set the number or repeats to speed up the painting.
- click on a segment till there is a red box around it. Right click and a species menu pops up. Select what species you want.
- To add species to WTP you need to go through File / Options
in the Options box select new species
a new window will pop up asking where the image is located. Fill in the rest of the info.
It is recommended you check the stretch to fit segment.
