• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Laminate Wizard Defaults

Trying to understand the laminate wizard "Save as defaults" button. I presume this was to allow me to save some of my more frequently used wood species but I cannot get the species that I enter to save, every time I come back to LP and the wizard I need to change the defaults to my preferred species. Maybe I am not understanding the purpose of that button? Any insight would be appreciated.

Good question. I am not sure what is going on. LP does the same for me.
I removed the excel files in the program directory and did a rebuilt. Same reaction as you. It is not saving the choices for each number of strips.

Hopefully, Lloyd will explain.

It’s a pretty easy explanation - it isn’t working and I’m not sure it ever did. I intended to remove the defaults functionality because it really doesn’t add anything of value. Whatever the default is, it is just as likely to be not what you want for the current design you want to make. I had forgotten it was still there. I’ve never once used it. When I Iook at the Wizard, my eyes are just never drawn to it.

If it was an easy fix, I would have done it long ago but it is actually much more complicated than it seems it should be. I have to let you specify not only the species but the thickness for every combination of the number of strips because setting the defaults for 5 strips is completely different than what you would choose for 6 strips, etc.

I took a break from programming when I retired recently as I badly needed a break and I was spending too much time behind my computer screen. I’m back to programming now but I will only work on one program at a time and for now, it is Segment PRO. The features and functionality are things that will be used by everybody so I’ll be sticking with that project until it is done.

There is a simple solution, though, and I don’t know why I didn’t think of this a long time ago. If you have a certain default you want for 7 strips, for example, start a new file, change it to the defaults you want and then save it as a file named Seven Strips Default in a new folder named Wizard Defaults or something like that. When you want to use that default, open that file and then do a Save As to whatever you want that new file to be named. Do the same for each number of strips and you will have duplicated the functionality that I would write to support that button.

The beauty of this approach is that you can have more than one default for 7 strips - one that focuses on walnut and another on purpleheart, etc. If I did it, you’d get only one default for each number of strips.

Good suggestion Lloyd. I like the work around and explanation.

To be honest until Ted brought it up I have never played with the save default in the wizard.

Thank you both for the help, the saved file default is a perfect solution and offers even more flexibility than the one save default option. Thanks again, Ted
