• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Jewelry/Music Box

I have to admit that sometimes I stray from round things and work with flat square stuff!

I had copied a set of plans that was in a magazine a few years back. I have always wanted to make one but had no reason to. Now that a niece is old enough I will build it as a gift. I have ordered the music box movement from Rockler

The plans call for three layers of Padauk to make up a finished size of 2". The piece of padauk I bought was actually 1 1/8- 1 3/16 thick and actually planed smooth at 1 inch. Therefore I only needed to glue up two pieces to make it 2 inches. Bonus.

The main body is ready for the bandsaw.

After 2 weeks waiting for UPS ground to deliver my music box movement from Rockler it has arrived. I did not want to cut out the body of the box without trying the movement onto the cut plan just to ensure that it does fit. More progress this weekend.

A bit of progress.

Had a small piece break off the edge of the right most piece. Put it back on and glued it. Had another spot where the grain had separated a bit so I used CA to try and stop it from moving.

A bit more progress on my Music Box.

The top was cut in half and a contrasting laminate was added. It is in clamps now.

Nice progress, you might turn out to be a woodworker
The truth be told I probably do more square stock woodworking than woodturning (don't say that to loud on this forum). Stuff tends to be much bigger in that hobby. That being said I think the days of me shinning sheets of plywood or MDF by myself are over. I did one project a bit ago that was made from 1" MDF, now that was heavy. I just basically dropped it on the garage floor and rough cut it to the required sizes just to be able to handle it.

The lathe will touch this project as well. I don't want to spend money to buy the little brass feet so I will turn 3 from padauk and counter drill the end to accept a small silicone type bumper. That way it won't slide.

Nice bandsaw box. Before I got into turning, I made quite a few bandsaw type boxes.

A bit more accomplished today. The internal shelf that covers the music box has been fitted. The top cover was planed, cut into the heart shape and the edge was routed with a 1/4 round over bit.

I have drilled the hole for the plunger to turn off the music when the lid is closed. On the bottom of the box I had to drill a 1 9/16 well to allow the key to wind the box as the key that came with the movement was not very long. I have also started to drill 3 small holes for the screws to attach the music box.

Yah I know what you mean. I just got done making and install four ash handles on the new tools I got in Boston. The big scraper even seems bigger and more formidable now that it's got a handle
