• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Larger Cremation Urn based on Stuart Johnson's design

My brother, Dean, passed away last week at age 60 from complications of ALS. He will be buried at the local Veteran's cemetery, but I wanted him to have an urn made by my brother and me. I really like Stuart's design (which you will see as the prior thread) as it has a classic shape and a nice feature ring. I modified the size, though, for a human weighing about 160 pounds as we are also taking some ashes to spread in Germany at his favorite stomping grounds.

The final size is 10.5" tall by 8" diameter. I never add a foot to a vessel, but in this case, but I added this time as I don't want to risk it tipping at the memorial service when the choir walks by.

The top solid disk has a 1-1/2" ABS Hub x NPT male fitting that screws into the female fitting at the top of the segmented row beneath it.

I've attached the 3D file with full inside/outside profiles, the WTP plan and the Lamination PRO file of the feature ring. I've also attached a PDF file with instructions (author unknown) for the ABS fitting.

It took us two days to make this vessel, start-to-finish. If you need help in adjusting the size to achieve a different interior volume, I'll be glad to help you do that.

Lloyd

sorry to hear about your brother Lloyd, i am sure he'd be chuffed to bits with the urn, it looks great.
Using the plastic thread of the pvc pipe is a very clever idea i might incorporate that into a future project of my own

Hi Lloyd. I am sorry for your loss. The urn is very nice. I am glad that you got to spend some time with your brother making it. As far as the size, I have turned a number of these and I find that 10-1/2" high x 7-1/2" to 8" diameter will fit most people. I am in the process now of adding three new urn designs to WTP that I have developed, remembering that no design is original, I think I stole these from the Ming dynasty Chinese. With your permission, I would like to add your design to my repertoire.

Thanks

Lloyd, Sorry about your loss. I like your take on the urn much better than my original. The foot goes with it and for an urn it is needed. I also like the accent ring without the spacers. Luckily mine is still in the planning stage and can be changed.

Thanks for posting not only the WP but each of the supporting files as well as the finished .jpg.

(the pdf file for the threaded insert is from Brad Adams)

Al,

I recently posted a new version of Lamination PRO. Can you install it and then give it a try?

Thanks,
Lloyd

I had the same problem as Al and solved it by downloading the file and saving it to disc. Then open Lamination Pro and select file OPEN and point to the directory where you saved the file and load it -No problems loads Ok for me in lamination Pro version 3.1.012 (The latest vers).

Alex,

You can certainly use not only this design (which I borrowed from Stuart Johnson), but any of my designs. My whole purpose is to encourage more segmenting and anything I can do in that regard pleases me.

Talk to you soon, my friend.

Lloyd

BTW, my brother was a real jokester and punmaster. At the reception following his memorial service, my two brother and one nephew did a tribute song to him and it was pretty hilarious, but perhaps painful to listen to. Here's a link to it:
