Metric conversion in species section

I designed a simple bowl and decided to work in metric. All the columns converted fine until it got to the species section. In the species section it remained in imperial measurements. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

This is a known "bug" . It is my understanding that it will be fixed in one of the future updates the SP. The update should be free when it comes out.
The good news is the width, length and SEL on the left convert to metric when that option is selected.

At this time you will have to do the conversion yourself for the individual species or take the length in metric and divide by the number of species segments and add a fudge factor for safety.

I was working on a fairly major upgrade to Segment PRO and I fixed this. Then I added some really big changes including a major change of the user interface. After a LOT of work on it I just wasn’t convinced that it was a better interface and it actually made some things harder to do. It also meant, though, that I would have to redo ALL of the video tutorials because if ever the UI doesn’t match the tutorial, it results in confusions and support calls.

Therefore, I rolled the software back to the last version published version which also took away the metric measurement.

If it was more important, I’d drop other things I’m working on but that just isn’t the case. In fact, I’d like opinions on whether cluttering the Summary with columns that are never used, making the Summary harder to read. In 25+ years of segmenting, I’ve never considered that number necessary and since it came out in Segment PRO seven years ago I’ve never used it.

What do you think?

imo, the user interface in SP is fine.
- I rarely draw my own vessel in SP. The provided profiles cover what I like to turn.
If it doesn't I use 3DDP and WTP.

I don't work in metric. So, I never paid much attention to the "bug" in the species column.

imo, the number that is most important to me is the number of different species making up the ring.
- The SEL is the same no matter what the species.
- as far as board length needed for each species, I don't rely on that number. One has to add a fudge factor for safety
I also tend to make more segments of each species needed for the ring. The reason for the spares is incase a segment is damaged or just off a bit on SEL.
While I use WTP for most of my project I do use SP. The paint feature is excellent. It is not that difficult using the summary sheet from SP to recreate the vessel in WTP if one wants to adjust individual rings.

All of the software is very useful. Once one understands what each software can do it is easy to design a project.

I really like the software and it suits me fine. I work in metric and find that it is obvious if something hasn't converted from imperial as the numbers are pretty obviously wrong eg 25mm /1inch. I also find that all I'm interested in is SEL and board width and approximate board length. OK that's my input and a very Happy Christmas to all
