Thank you for trying it on your program and achieving the same results I get. If I click continue, everything works as it should.Playing around with LP. I rebuilt your project and made the 1/8" strip a bit larger. did the 1 Gen and then SW and things looked ok. No error.
Save the file , closed LP and opened the saved file and got the error message.
It is strange that things were fine till I saved the file and reopened.
Not sure if it is save issue, too thin of strips or what. I also made a similar design with 5 strip instead of 7 and things seemed to do ok in LP
This is definitely a problem for Lloyd to address. Beyond what I can do.
Sorry, could not help out.
If you and Lloyd come up with a solution, please post the answer.
Thanks.
I see now how you changed the Repeating Unit to 1" to get the 2" Repeating unit.A question I can answer for you Alan.
The process should be is first design your vessel in WTP or SP. That way you know the SEL for the featured ring.
In LP the Repeating Unit (bottom part of the screen) should be as close to the SEL as possible. Basically the Repeating Unit is the SEL for the segment.
You can adjust the Repeating Unit by adjusting the First Cut Width in LP.
Using your LP file I changed the Repeating Unit to 1" produced repeating unit of 2".
I then adjusted the center strip (blue) to 1.250 inches. This adjusted the pattern so there is some walnut between the repeating pairs. That would accommodate the saw kerf when cutting the segments.
attached is changed file. I called it My SW designs 5-14 modified. Take a look and see if you like the pattern.
basically the number of repeating units is the number of segments you planned for the ring. So yes.I see now how you changed the Repeating Unit to 1" to get the 2" Repeating unit.
Up in the top left corner, to the right of Laminate Wizard, the Repeating Unit box, this is for the number of segments I want, right?
Then 1 inch it is.I do remember changing the blue center strip to a few different numbers, but I like the way it came out with the 1" blue strip removed.
correct.Another thing I did, but shouldn't have affected the SEL, was I cut 4 .125" strips instead of 3.
Glad I could be of help.I now have about 4" of laminated board that I'll find something for. And as I'm looking at this particle piece I attached, my OCD is not happy with it.
Patience.
Back to the drawing board.
Thank you so much for your response and help.
basically the number of repeating units is the number of segments you planned for the ring. So yes.
However, I sometimes will add a couple for spares. that is if I was doing a 16 segment ring I may make it 18 repeating units in LP.
Setting the number of repeating units in LP is used in the amount of material you need.
Then 1 inch it is.
correct.
Glad I could be of help.
If you found the email from Lloyd if you would not mind sharing what tips he was asking to do or check out in dealing with the error message.
Thanks. Your design looks great.
Thank you, Lloyd, for getting back to me concerning this issue.I’m back. I’ve been helping some friends deal with a bad health issue and so haven’t been able to spend the time here like I try to do.
I’ll open you .Lam file and see if I can spot where the issue is. It isn’t evident from looking at your design where an error has occurred. This likely means that a change was made at some point in your design process that the software and the data file contains remnants of that change. If you were to print out the File > Print page and rebuild the project using the instructions on that page, you will no longer have this issue.
Without having you watched all of the steps you took to get to the final design, I doubt it will be possible to know what happened. Frankly, with the complexity of the code based on the gyrations that need to happen behind the scene, I’m surprised we don’t see this more often. But it’s been doing it for 20 years now so overall, I’m quite happy.
Some things, like the height of the rectangle aren’t saved in the data file. Yes, it should be and it’s on my todo list. It’s a long list, though, and not high on the list.
Lloyd
Thanks Lloyd for looking into it. What you stated makes sense. It appears to me that this is a resource issue. I have been able to reproduce the error, but it took a long time. The error indicates that it has run out of memory. With all of the slicing and dicing of images, the amount of memory in use grows. This isn't an issue on my development computer because I have a LOT of memory. It could be an issue on a laptop, though, and based on what other programs are running and the amount of memory, it would happen a lot sooner.
I have just added code to better delete items when they are no longer needed and I'm guessing that will either eliminate or greatly reduce the number of times this occurs.
However, I'm leaving for vacation soon and I don't like making new releases when I'm not going to be in a position to fix issues that could arise as a result of the new code.
I will send both of you a copy of the updated code if you don't mind being beta testers. If something does happen, just delete the new version and install the one from the Downloads page.
