There is nothing similar between Woodturner PRO and Segment PRO. I wrote Segment PRO to do all of the work for you. It only knows about the wall profile, the height and the default fields of row thickness, number of segments, wall thickness, open/closed and a few other fields. That’s all the software needs to know to build the bowl for you. It then lets you paint the vessel and it remembers what segments have been painted and with what species.
Woodturner PRO only knows what you have done to build the bowl and it renders the bowl based on what you have done. It can’t do anything on its own. The difference is - Woodturner PRO allows you to do anything you want - staves, compound segments, wheels, veneer rows, etc. It wouldn’t be possible for Segment PRO to be able to build a bowl that could do anything you could imagine because there are just too many capabilities. That is why it only works to build standard segmented bowls.
The key is to know what kind of bowl you want to build and then use the correct software. If it is a standard segmented bowl, you should always use Segment PRO which will build your bowl in a third of the time it would take you in Woodturner PRO. If it isn’t standard, you must use Woodturner PRO.
Because of the differences, there isn’t any way to share files between the two. If there was, there would only be one program - Woodturner PRO. It can do anything you can do in Segment PRO. It only takes a lot longer. Segment PRO can only do a fraction of what you can do in Segment PRO. It will do it in a fraction of the time.
If I were to start all over, I’d do it all over again just like I did it the first time, though.
