Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

- I have looked at Segment Project Planner. It is along the lines of WTP. I found SPP to be more cumbersome than WTP. Still a nice software tool.
- My take the price of the software is set to help offset the development cost, not to make a profit. Segment turning is specialized and does not have a huge following, imo.
When I started Woodturner PRO in 2001, less than 5% of woodturners were willing to give segmenting a try. No software, no tools, not much history, etc. Today, it’s closer to 40% and growing. Much of this is because the cost of wood. If you’re a chunk turner and want to make a really impressive turning, you need to get out your really big checkbook. Most of my turnings are made at little to no cost since there are a LOT of barrels of cutoffs, shorts and other discarded hardwoods that can be had for little or no money and they are great for segmenting.
When the boomers retired and realized they didn’t have enough to keep them busy, segmenting seemed like a good option because its easy to learn and easy to do, thanks to wedgie sleds, SegEasy plates, Stompers and yes, software. The Covid comes along and segmenting takes another big leap.
It takes a lot of money to develop software, though, because its a big job and customer programmers are needed to some degree and they are not cheap. So my price is to recover my development costs which I have now done and as a retirement business, I’m now getting paid for my past efforts. Pricewise, all of my software sells for exactly the price they sold for on the day they were released. And at $139 for four pieces of software, it’s about the same price as a nice gouge. All upgrades are free and there isn’t ever a subscription charge. I believe my Everything Suite is the best deal in all of woodturning. :->
With the help of Malcolm Tibbetts, Jim Rodgers and a few other excellent segmenters, we formed the online club Segmented Woodturners 15 years ago which is now the largest club of the AAW. (Title: Segmented Woodturners | Worldwide Home of Segmented Woodturners). I’m still on the Board of Directors and it has become an excellent resource for new and old segmenters and well worth the $25 per year membership. Our next Symposium (7th) will be in Chicago on September 22-25, 2022 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago - Northbrook resort. A lot more information will be coming soon.
Anyway, I thought I’d give a look at the current state of segmenting. I’ve been particularly thrilled to see how many women have joined the ranks of segmenting and they are doing a great job and seem to be having a lot of fun as well.
