• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Floating Bottoms

Floating bottom question.
The write up for creating a floating bottom said to mount the bottom ring to a waste block on the edge of the segments. Because cant attach it the floating bottom).
That would mean I’d have to make an 8 inch waste block or an 8 inch disk to mount my 4 inch waste block and faceplate to.
Do have that right. Am I missing something here.

I've never done a loose bottom so this is speculation.

I think it means to attach a waste block the same size to your bottom ring that already has the floating bottom built into it to a faceplate if that's how you choose to hold it. You could also turn a dovetail on the waste block and grab it with a chuck. Once you have the waste block mounted and flat, glue that first ring assembly to the waste block so that it is concentric to the lathe spindle the same way you glue all the other rings concentric to the spindle.

I'm going to have to try this on my next piece. Thank you for bringing up the topic.

Attached is an article by M. Tibbetts that might be of help.
I for one have not made a floating base, yet. :)
