• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Hey all, new to the software and segmented turning… so I’m sure it’s operator error here. My ring outside diameters aren’t matching up with what the software says it should be. Ring 6 is shown as an example, I’m over a half an inch short on my diameter.I checked my calipers against the woodpecker ruler pictured. My length and width matches what it should be… any help is appreciated

Hi:
Would you please attach your project plan. I take it you are using SP.
in SP you can do a share / export. to create a json file we can import and look at.

Not sure what went wrong, but I have never seen math to be off.

I’m sure it’s on me…. I think I may have changed a measurement in the wrong step along the way to finalizing what I wanted…. Doing a little digging I can see that may affect it?

Not sure the process you did to develop your bowl.
- Is the profile one you did or was it one of the provided profiles?
- Not sure why the math is off.
diameter x 3.1416 / number of segments = Segment Length.

Still working on it.

The best thing to do is set your set your
Bowl settings and Height. Then don't change it.
Also, if you paint a design. do not change the number of segments per ring. That throws off the counter. The software does not know what segment to delete in the design.

I made a quick bowl in SP to somewhat match your vessel and the math came out ok.

I would start over and see what happens in SP.

Here is a discussion on formulas

I appreciate it, I’d have figured I’d it was a painted bowl changing the size would matter more … I’ll look at it again when I’m home and start from scratch. Out of curiosity did you get the same cut lengths?

I did not use the tan math. Using a basic dia x 3.1416 = sel
this bowl came out very close.

r2 7.6" dia SP had it at 1.204 my math 1.1938
r4 10" dia SP had it at 1.581 my math 1.5708

I expect mine to be off a bit because it is not using tangent.

Sorry I’m late to this party. I’m currently in Israel up near the border of Lebanon at the ancient city of Dan.

The measurements I give are accurate to multiple digits and i guarantee them to be accurate so it MUST be something else. If your micrometer matches the SEL and the diameters are off, the only possible thing that would affect the calculation is that there is an entry in the Spacers field. If you have an entry there, it would cause your diameter to be less than the calculated diameter.

If you have an entry there but are making a painted segment or a tornado bowl, it won’t show you the vertical spacer because you would never make a bowl like that, but it may still affect the diameter. It shouldn’t, but I don’t have the ability right now to check that. On the new release, I will either not show you the Spacers field unless it is a feature ring, or I’ll go ahead and show you the spacer regardless of the type.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond, I wouldn't have;). Especially traveling.

When i did the bowl I played around with all the features, clicking through them, I'm pretty sure I left a entry in the spacers field. This seems to change the SEL, but not the diameters when i played with it.

I really appreciate the software and being available to help here on the forum. I figured it was something I did, lesson learned.

We are all still learning. Software makes it easy to start over. I still play with SP to see what one can do in the program.
One key lesson learned is if painting a design, do not change the number of segments. The software does not know which painted segments to remove or add to the rings. So the counter gets messed up in the summary sheet.

Thanks for posting your questions. It helps us all.
