• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Probably SP bug?

I'm starting to use SP and was surprised to see this situation. Is it a program error or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks

Not enough information to determine what the issue may be.
It is helpful to attach the *.json file That can be done by Share/Export
That way we can see exactly what has been done.

Did you by any chance paint a design then change the number of segments? If so that would explain the -6 in the summary sheet.

Attached is a new json file.

I imported your json file. Went into Paint and did a reset segments.
Repainted the vessel so the top ring is 1/2 maple 1/2 mahagony.
Summary sheet came out ok
I have attached a saved json file for your project.

Couple of things I have found useful in using SP.
- Set the Height, and Bowl Setting (number of segments, row thickness, etc) before painting
- Once you start painting a vessel, do not change number of segments or vessel height.
- If you do, SP will lose track of the species. You will have to reset the paint segments and start the design again.

Thank you, but the top ring is 1/2 maple 1/2 mahagony because the change to all mahagony was ignored by the program.
However I assumed that with each modification SP regenerated everything. If this doesn't happen it's a big limitation.

It will generate the change as long as the number of segments per ring does not change.

Call it a bug if you like, but it’s a bug for a good reason. If you paint a bowl of 48 segments, for example,, and then change the number to 24 segments, the software keeps track of those segments in the event that you change it back to 48 segments. The downside is that it doesn’t know what to do with those other zombie segments and the species count can (but doesn’t always) get off.

I’ve already fixed this in the next release of Segment PRO which will be out in April if all goes well. I’ve got a lot of other things in this release and some of them are harder than I had planned on. I fixed this bug by getting rid of those zombie segments when you reduce the segment count and if you go back to a higher number, they won’t be painted. It took one line of code. Problem solved.

Until then if you paint a bowl and reduce the segments, just reset the segments and paint it again. It’s good practice. If you paint a bowl and then repaint it, it will take half the time. If you do this again, it will take half the time again but that’s about as good as you can get.

Btw, you also have way too many dots on your profile. The software builds a bezier curve to best the dots and that curve will be just as good with fewer dots and if you think you want to modify the design, you can do it much more quickly with fewer dots. And while we’re on that subject, There is a dot with a special purpose as it says in the tutorial and here is what it says...

The next-to-the-bottom dot tells the software where to start transitioning to the base. You’ll see this when you move that dot along the profile and watch what it does to the Cutaway View. As you move the dot upward along the profile, you’ll see that the board width begins to get larger at the level of that dot. A wider board causes the inside diameter to get smaller and so this gives you more wood to transition to the base. If you have too many dots, it isn’t possible to position that dot where it needs to be.

Thank you very much, I hope the software will be always more performing.

Sometimes I've used an existing plan and made modifications to it. That's why there were too many points and I didn't know how to remove them.

SP profile does not seem to have a node removal option like 3DDesign.
Basically you have to clear and start over.

I need to read more of these postings. Learned that I don’t need ro draw the inside wall in SP and that fewer dots are better! Also that I don’t need to be too concerned about the 2nd dot because my projects are all open on both ends.
