• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Noticed two possible bugs, printing and file name?

As a new Seg Pro user I noticed that no matter what the setting is the "Print" command gives a portrait orientation output even when the preview shows a landscape.
Also, when I open a plan that I previously saved, and make a bunch of modifications (like changing the number of segments}, when I resave it with a new name the descriptor that seems to be built in concerning the number of segments remains the same as the previous name. So if the previous file was a 16 seg design, the new 24 seg design still carries the same description of 16 segments and it still shows the same number of total segments.
Maybe I should be watching more tutorials before asking any questions.
But thanks for any answers, in advance.

Hi Mike:

SP takes a bit to learn in saving plans. I will address the saving plans first.

- I just created a project with 24 segments per ring and saved the plan.
- Cleared and reset SP then pulled up the list of plans, found the plan and opened it.
- Changed the segment number from 24 to 12.
- clicked on save plan button. (A pop up window asked if I wanted to overwrite the plan.
* If you select Yes, SP will save the plan (12 segments) and overwrite the 24 segment plan with the same name.
* If you select No, SP will save the plan (12 segments) as a new plan and name.
- I selected No, cleared everything and went back and pulled up the Plan list. Both plans were shown. Looked at both plans and one is for 24 segments and the other for 12.

I will try out the print issue later today. Not near my printer at this time.

Hi Mike:
I was able to get SP to print the summary in Landscape.
Not sure it is a bug in the SP or it has to do with the printer drivers.

In SP I clicked on Print.
- a print box popped up
- selected Preference
- Page Setup (click on Landscape)
- ok
- Apply
- Print.

It seems the default is portrait.
If you have a concern you may want to send Lloyd an email.
Hope it helps.

Thanks very much for your reply on the save question. I guess I am not following very well. I just did the same thing and changed a plan from 24 to 28 segments and hit the save button. I said no to overwriting. The suggested name for the file still says the original 16/6 with 124 pieces. Do you mean that I should say yes to overwriting the plan? I just think the program should recognize the new number of segments, etc. It is still carrying the specs for two plans ago. I apologize for not getting it yet. But thanks for your help.

Thanks again for giving me some help here. You said that your printer did print in landscape? But you also said that maybe the default is to portrait. the program did let me change the request to landscape, and the print preview shows landscape but it prints in portrait anyway. My printer is working in other programs with the option of either portrait or landscape. Maybe Lloyd already know about this. Thanks again.

Remember "Cool Hand Luke" with Paul Newman, "what we have here, is a failure to communicate" by me.:) I may have mixed up things in my original post. I will try again.

- When you save a plan in SP it generates a description and a file name for you. It will add the saved plan to the Plan list.

- If you make a change from 24 to 28 segments and say YES to overwriting it will save the plan under the original generated file name.

- If you make a change from 24 to 28 segments and say NO to overwriting, SP will create a new plan under a new file name. A new plan should be added to your Plan list. The original description would be the same but he file name will be different.

One hint to keep in mind. If you paint a design and then change the number of segments the summary sheet and species count may get messed up. So the hint is: Set your bowl settings , then paint, and save. If you want to change the number of segments, you have to start over. By changing the number of segments the program does not know what painted segments to add or delete.

I don't think you messed anything up. I think my program or my use of the program is not working the same as yours. Some day when I might figure this out I will look back at this and have a laugh about what I must be doing wrong. But when I do as you say, the name and description is staying exactly the same as the original file, from several generations before. I do know that if I open a profile and change some things, and then overwrite the original file i will lose that original profile. I had to reload the program under the "repair" option in order to get the open bowl profile back into the library. I will move forward and try to learn more as I go. Thanks for your help and guidance.

As far as the printer issue. I agree that from Print and selecting landscape has a glitch. What I did/do to overcome this is to:
- Select Print
- From the Print window I make sure the printer is selected and I click on Preferences (right window in attachment)
- In the Printing Preferences I select Page Setup and click on Landscape. (when I opened this window portrait was selected even though landscape was in the SP print window), Then hit ok.
From the General window hit print.
It should print out in landscape. (at least mine does.

Don't confuse saving a profile vs saving a plan. Two different things.

You are absolutely right! I had just discovered this a few minutes ago, that my underlying printer preferences were overriding the SP preference choices. I had found this same underlying preference button. Thanks for all your very thorough help on everything. I will go back to your other answer on the filing question and post a new reply there about how a sequence of working seems to affect the outcome. Thanks again here.

Yes I see the difference about two different files. and about the export version as well. But I think what is happening is that if I open one of my saved existing plan files, and then I change some parameters, the program does not respond to the changes in the same way as when creating a new saved plan, as if you start fresh with an original profile and make some choices and then save it to a plan file. For example if I start fresh from a profile and pick my choices it prints out the summary sheet correctly. But if I open a previously saved plan file and make changes to go to the exact choices I used on the one directly from a profile, all the board lengths and board widths are different, and sometimes in a very odd way. So from now on I will always try to use a freshly opened profile to make my selection of row widths and wall thickness choices, and then print them from there. Maybe those are the rules for using this program and I did not see the correct tutorial yet about this matter. Once again thanks for your patience with my learning curve. I appreciate all the good feedback. I will try to quit asking questions until I have put in more effort to learn this.

SP is rules based. It automates a lot of calculations and planning for your. WTP gives you complete control. SP does not.

You are correct it won't respond the same way. Think of it this way:
You pick a profile, SP loads it and takes you to Bowl View.
- you should next set your bowl/vessel height
- Set your Bowl settings.
1. Height, row thickness, base thickness
2. Set your number of segments per ring. Do not change the number of segments per ring. The database will get confused.
(you can set the number in the segment box, or pick beginner, intermediate or advanced and SP will set the number.
3. Select if you going to do a painted segment, featured ring, or tornada bowl.
4. do your design in paint, featured ring or tornado design.
5. look at the summary,
6 print if needed.

I have been opening a profile, paint a design and saved the plan.
The problem if you have painted a design and change the number of segments the pattern will get distorted. The program does not know which painted segment to delete or add.
You can change the number of segments but, you basically have got to go back to the paint window, reset the painted segments and start over.

Lloyd has said he is working on an update (no time line) that will prompt the user that changing the number of segments will cause a reset.

We all are still learning. I still use WTP more for my final. SP has great profiles built in and the paint feature is great.
