• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Output values

Question: Is there a way to change the output values to be in inches and fractions of an inch?

Yesterday when I actually went to cut my rings using the values from Segment Pro (I am a newbie here), I had to convert everything from decimal to inches using a on-line conversions tool. But then I had the problem that my measuring tools do not go down to 64th of an inch. If I cannot have the software convert on the fly then what physical measuring tool do you use to get the correct distance? Yesterday I made 2 rings of the wrong size. Wood and time are to valuable to waist. :)

Thanks in advance!

Short answer . SP output can be metric or decimal inches. If you want fractions Wood Turner Pro still supports fractions.

I have given up using fractions a few years ago. My digital caliper can do fraction, decimal inches or metric. Was like $20 at one of the big box stores.

From another thread this is Lloyds comment on the issue.
"The S.E.L. (Segment Edge Length) is shown in decimal inches unless you have changed the setting to use milimeters.

Fractions are no longer used for a variety of reasons, first on the list is that desktop computers are being replaced with laptops and tablets and increasingly, keyboards are being deleted because touch screens and screen-based keyboards are becoming more prevalent. The fields used for data are all numeric fields because you can increment/decrement them by clicking on arrows. Fractions are text characters, though, so they cannot be used in a modern user interface.

Once you've used digital inches, you'll wonder why you didn't switch years ago. It is more accurate and far simpler. The key is to get a micrometer that measures in decimal inches and also get a ruler or tape measure that has fraction on one edge and digital inches on the other.

Finally, the rest of the world has been using digital numbers instead of fractions, well, forever. If we're ever going to get to a universal measurement system (should have happened years ago, moving to decimal inches from fractions if a major first step."

Mike is correct about where the world has gone but I understand how you feel. It is difficult to remove the habits of a lifetime that are imprinted in the brain, in my case from a long career in engineering. Recognizing that SP was not going to change I wrote some VBA code to post-process Excel reports from SP to use fractional inches. Sad to say but I am too old, perhaps too stubborn :), to change. Having said that this has made me think again!
