Issues with cutting small segments on table saw catching blade

I think i know what is happening here but several times when I am cutting small segments on my table saw setup

the piece will catch the sawblade and blast away violently. I assume the problem is that the workpiece is not supported by the table saw base but instead is raised up a bit due to the miter sled. I do have the mating sled

I could use but I will have to construct some kind of variable stop block on top of the mating stationary sled.

Looks like the stationary sled has some excellent mounting points for a stop. You could go with a sliding stop with thumbscrew lock or a screw type with locking nut.

I might also consider not using this sled at all. I have the original low quality miter gauge but also own the MiterSet gauge which allows me to set my factory gauge to a precise angle. This way I have all 3 features, 1)angle, 2)stop block, 3)solid table surface. My first (and only so far) segmented bowl was done via this method.

Your set up looks a lot like mine when I use the incra sled. To help reduce the problem:
- I would raise the blade to its full height. Somewhere in another post I read that it helps.
- I don't have a photo so hope my description makes sense. I made a zero clearance ramp that is the same height as my incra or segeasy sled base. It is cut at about 45 degrees. To attach to the table saw I used a small magnet on either end of the zero clearance ramp. The magnets were epoxied in. The magnets secure the ramp to the saw table.

The segeasy vid shows a clearance ramp. It is just attached differently to the table saw.

sled plans also shows zero clearance ramp.

I made a zero clearance ramp too for mine, its attached to an extra zero clearance plate for my saw. Idea there is to pitch the cut pieces away from the blade as the fall away. Good safety feature.
