• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Beginner's Project - Open Segment Christmas Ornament

I've done a poor job at providing content for the segmenter that is just getting started with open segment turnings. So with Christmas fast approaching, I thought this would be a good time to correct that with a project that is seasonally appropriate.

I've made a five-part tutorial that shows how to design, cut segments, assemble using the Stomper and SegEasy plates, discuss tips and tricks for turning, and finishing the turning including reverse turning to finish the top and bottom of an ornament.

The first part (Design) has good information regarding using Excel to really optimize the turning for cutting and construction speed. Turners that aren't beginners will benefit from watching this.

I hope you enjoy it and hope that you will ask questions and provide feedback to make the thread a better resource for those just starting this journey.

Merry Christmas!
Lloyd

Part 2 - Miter Saw
This part covers the cutting of wood into strips, making a sled for the miter saw that allows segments to be cut quickly and safely. With this sled, you'll be able to cut the segments for all of the rows in about 15 minutes.

What happened to the mustache!!!!!!!!!!!!~

It's growing back. I just had a treatment to systemically go after pre-canderous cells on my face and since they often appear on upper lips, the stache had to go. That was the easy part, though. They apply a chemotherapy topically and then let it become absorbed into pre-cancerous cells. They then expose you to an intense blue light that lights it on fire. It then looks like you fell asleep in the tanning booth. Once it fully peels off and you're starting to look normal again, they do it all again.

The pain level from the first treatment was about a 5. The level from the second treatment was at least 12.

The doctor told me that she would make me hideous for a few weeks and that after that my face would be like a baby's butt. I told her that I've seen a baby's butt and am not impressed.

Fortunately, you can pretty much watch my mustache grow and so it will be back within about a week.

Hi Lloyd. Great Videos! I know that will help a lot of beginners get started. Exactly what your site needed! I'm starting my 4" ornaments today!

Are these project videos transferable to my computer. My 14 year old granddaughter (and my turning buddy) would probably like to see and try this.

Yes, in the lower right corner of the video is the word Vimeo, if you click it it will take you to Lloyd's Vimeo account, it's kind of like YouTube. There will be a download button

Lloyd, I've tried to find the Carter Osprey tool and can't find it. Has it been replaced by a different tool? I find one called the AXE would that work the same?
