Beginner's Project - Open Segment Christmas Ornament

I just want to show you guys my first attempt. Overall I am happy but I need to work on my technique for shaping a sphere. Walnut/cherry 6.5" tall with finial and about 4" wide.

Not bad.
I would hang it on a tree.
Looks good. Since it came out that shape, that is what you must of wanted. or at least that is what I say when a vessel does not look exactly like the drawing. :)

Thanks for sharing.

I've done a poor job at providing content for the segmenter that is just getting started with open segment turnings. So with Christmas fast approaching, I thought this would be a good time to correct that with a project that is seasonally appropriate.

I've made a five-part tutorial that shows how to design, cut segments, assemble using the Stomper and SegEasy plates, discuss tips and tricks for turning, and finishing the turning including reverse turning to finish the top and bottom of an ornament.

The first part (Design) has good information regarding using Excel to really optimize the turning for cutting and construction speed. Turners that aren't beginners will benefit from watching this.

I hope you enjoy it and hope that you will ask questions and provide feedback to make the thread a better resource for those just starting this journey.

Merry Christmas!
Lloyd
Do you have any other Christmas Ornaments to download, Bells, snowmen, ect.

I'm afraid I don't, Gary. Sorry.

Here's a project that makes a great Christmas Gift, though.
