• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

    Gaps between rings

I flatten on both sides before glue-up. I flatten one side on an MDF board with 80 grit and then flatten the other side on a drum sander. Of course, good stock prep will minimize the need for a lot of sanding, and making sure that the ring is as flat as possible while the glue is setting. I use...

    adjustable stop and sled

I use a combination of setup blocks down to 1/32" to set the distance to the blade. It is quick and accurate, and the stop block is very easy to make. I output data from Segment PRO to Excel, and use that to calculate the setup blocks that I need for each ring.

    Hi, my name is Juergen

I only use carbide and always have. Different strokes for different folks.

    Off Center

I use the Stomper (home made version) and Segeasy plates made on my CNC or you can buy from Jerry Bennett. It is by far the simplest approach and there are no alignment issues.

    Walnut and Pacific Yew Bowl

Bob is a very interesting multi-talented person. He has an amazing collection of stained glass which he renovates, and sells most of them. Where most people would hang pictures on the wall, he hangs stained glass. A visit to his home is like walking into a museum. He has a xylophone in his...

    Walnut and Pacific Yew Bowl

The bowl is nothing special compared with the masterpieces seen here. I am only posting to show the Pacific Yew which is not likely to be readily available to most people. Even though it is abundant along the coast where I live, it is not usually available for purchase, and if it is, it is...

Having trouble with Southwest segment length

Had not thought of using a laser but that's a good idea.

Having trouble with Southwest segment length

There are many workable approaches to centering rings. Everyone has their favorite, usually obtained by trial and error. Use whatever works!

Having trouble with Southwest segment length

If I have a problem it is because I have not kept the rings centered correctly. Since using the Stomper and Longworth centering device, I have had no problems. If you are off near the start it will likely get worse as you proceed. If your ring prep is good and everything is centered things...

Having trouble with Southwest segment length

The reason that the Segeasy sled gets recommended so often is that it is self correcting. Any slight error in the segment cutting angle is corrected since alternating pieces are cut from different fences. It is important to remember to mark one of the surfaces before you start cutting so that...

    48 segment rings

I do most of what has been mentioned, especially the slow setting glue. Originally I started by gluing together 3 segment pieces using friction joints. However, I found that by the time I got to the end things were setting up. So, I went to groups of 4. Then I glue together all of the groups of...

    Layout of the rings

Having tried various methods I settled on using the Stomper, where gravity is your friend. Also, I can use the lathe for other things while the glue dries, such as pen turning. It is nice to get perfect alignment but slight misalignment isn't a major problem since it is easily corrected when...

Processing SegPRO Summary Output for the Shop

Interesting! I have never had a single bad ring using a Wedgie sled. When I first started I made half rings thinking that was necessary. Then I just decided that I will try to make full rings to save time and effort, and have done so ever since. I use JB setup templates and some that I have cut...
