In Woodturner PRO Build v3.0.27, two tools have been added to the toolbar which lets you modify the wall profile that was imported from 3D Design PRO. These tools allow you to make changes to the wall profile without having to switch back-and-forth between 3D Design PRO and Woodturner PRO.

Although this video tutorial is primarily a Woodturner PRO tutorial, Part 1 shows how to use a 3rd party graphic design program to create images that can be used to create custom species in Woodturner PRO.

SketchUp is the program I selected for the design work, but it could have been Microsoft Paint, Photoshop Elements, any of the Macintosh graphical editors, or dozens of other programs. This video shows how to create a spiral pattern using the Stacked Wood process whereby individual pieces of wood are glued or 'stacked' to create a design.

Parts 2 and 3 are also on this page, which you will find below Part 1.

Malcolm Farrant has prepared written instructions for creating the Stacked Wood drawing in SketchUp. I have added it to the Attachments area of this tutorial. Thanks Malcolm!

Note: This tutorial was done using Lamination PRO Version 3.

Integrating Lamination PRO with SketchUp is simple as you'll see. In this tutorial, I'm using images exported from Lamination PRO in SketchUp to design a game board that has a chess board on one side and a backgammon board on the other. The beauty of this approach is that it dramatically speeds up the process in SketchUp and it gives photo-realistic results so that you can see exactly what it is going to look like before you ever cut a piece of wood ...

I am pleased to introduce our first Featured Artist, Ron Befferman.

Ron lives in New Jersey and retired 17 years ago after a long career with the Federal Aviation Administration. His love of working with wood began in 1992 by making 19th century furniture reproductions. These projects required lots of dovetails and intricate joinery, but also a lot of turned finials - a skill he had not yet acquired. Ron took a class at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina and as his skills developed, so did his passion for woodturning.

The new Southwest View in Lamination PRO lets you transform a 1st or multi-generation board into a Southwest, or Native Indian-style design with a simple mouse click. Once you've done that, additional options will let you change the pattern into an unlimited number of design opportunities.

Designing a complex vessel with 35 rows of 36 segments (1,260 segments) has always been time consuming.

In this video tutorial I'll show two new features of Woodturner PRO that will change all that. We'll start in 3D Design PRO and transfer a sample vessel wall profile to Woodturner PRO. We'll then use the Golden Ratio overlay to position the center of the feature ring and paint ...
