• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Collaborative Bowl Project - Closed Segment

It just gets better and better. What chucking method are you using?
Stuart I have only one Talon chuck so I have to keep removing the piece from my #3 jaws after dressing the face of each ring. Then I put on the jumbo jaws to flatten and centre the next ring. When I glue on a ring I leave the added ring in the jumbo jaws then just use my live centre to push the bowl up against the ring. I rotate it for alignment and then tighten it up for 2-3 hours. Back in the very beginning when I make the waste block I ensure that I have a centre to work from. Hope that makes sense. Seems to work for me. That is the same procedure I used for the Eagle Bowl and my Dizzy vase.

Looking good.

Thanks for taking the time to document your project. It helps us all in learning.

Row 13 is on the bowl, row 14 is in clamps. Tomorrow I will cut rows 15-18 segments as well as adding row 14 and hopefully row 15 to the bowl. Row 18 is the last row which will be a 48 segment walnut ring.

This is my bowl after row 13 has been dressed and flattened.

I also decided to turn a bit on the outside and define the bottom.

Now row 14 has been glued on.

Back to the shop to cut the final segments for the last three rings.

Glenn, This follow along is great. Let me make a suggestion when completed. Make up a small booklet with the start to finish photos and descriptions. It doesn't have to be large but will be a nice addition to the bowl. I did this for the quilt hollow form I made for my nephew and his partner. The enjoyed seeing just what steps were taken as well as showing it to his partners Grandmother that made the original quilt. If yours is a gift it will be a good addition or if you are keeping it (I would) it will be nice to show just how you made it when the questions come up.

Another great idea Stuart. I have done a few books online through a company call BLURB. They do make a nice keepsake.

I just finished milling the lumber for the final top ring of walnut. As the top of the shape starts to flare open I'm left thinking the walnut ring is getting big and takes from the design. I'm thinking of looking at the design and maybe ripping the material for the last strip with a bit of an angle and laminating a piece of maple alongside so that when when the segments are made only the tip will be walnut. I'll try to draw it up in Sketchup tonight and post what I mean, unless you understand where I am coming from and have a suggestion.

I don't think I'm following. It looks like ring 17 will then be too thick. This might be a case of I need to see the actual ring to understand.
