• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. Error with Export from Lamination Pro

I have the paid-for versions of both WTP and LP. They are all up to date with current versions and all running in the same compatibility mode (Windows 8).

After checking the Clipping Region box and selecting my height, I click the Export to Woodturner Pro box. I get a popup that tells me where the export file is located and that if WTP is running it will go there automatically. I click OK.

If WTP is running, absolutely nothing happens. If I go to WTP and click "Open" and select the export.bmp file I get - Error "not well-formed" in document on line 1 and then WTP crashes.

I get the same error if I use "Export Image" instead of Export to WTP and try to open the jpg in WTP.

Any idea why this is happening and how I can correct it?

To clarify something.
Do you have both WTP and LP up and running at the same time?
If no, start both programs.

if yes, selecting to export to WTP from LP will bring the cut image in as a new wood species.
In LP when you select export to wtp. you should see WTP icon in the tool tray flashing.
Click on WTP.
give your LP image a new species name.
check stretch to fit segment.
Make sure your segment ring in WTP is the same height as your LP clipping region

If you selected export image.
LP should save the clipped region as a bmp file.
In WTP you need to go in and add that image as a wood species.
File / Options / new species.
In the box that pops up. name the image
select bitmap (jpeg)
in the path click ... and go to where you stored the image.
check stretch to fit segment and click ok

I am running windows 10 and don't have an issue.

If your still having issues , hopefully Lloyd will address the possible problem.

Have you tried running the programs other than in widows 8 compatible mode?

Yes, they were both running at the same time, but WTP did not flash in my task bar and the exported file didn't appear as a new species. I'm running Windows 8 and selected to put them in compatibility mode with Win8 as well just to make sure everything was cohesive.

Export Image (v. 3.1.015) saves the file as a JPG not a BMP. Export to WTP saves the file as a BMP ("export.bmp"). However, armed with that information, I was able to import the file as a new species using the BMP that was saved when I export to WTP. So, success! Sort of. :)

It seems that for some reason my Export to WTP is acting as Export Image and exporting as a BMP which, for whatever reason, is not being picked up my WTP as a new species when they are both running. Should Export to WTP be exporting to a different file type than BMP? Perhaps that's where the issue is and why it's not automatically exporting?

At least for now, I can get the file working manually, so thanks!

I use inter-process communications to allow the two programs to interact with each other. This means that they have to be able to locate each other in the computer's memory and it sounds like that isn't happening. Whenever I have seen this, doing a cold boot fixes the issue so I'd like for you to try that. I've used this functionality on Window 8, 8.1 and 10 and so I know that it is working correctly and the version of both programs has been on the server for months so I think it is something other than software. However, if it were a compatibility issue ( and it may well be since there are a lot of OEM versions out there), I'd recommend changing compatibility to Windows 7 or even Windows XP as those operating systems were skinnier and more stable.

If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll have other ideas for you.

Still no love for direct exporting, unfortunately. I even tried running them both as administrator as well. I'm guessing this is probably something specific to my machine's settings that's causing an issue. At least I can do the manual export which is good enough!

I'm not giving up yet, though. I've never had the image transfer not work and don't want you to be the first. I'm working on a new version of Lamination PRO built with the new version of Visual Studio designed for Windows 10 and perhaps the new libraries will make a difference.

The new version doesn't add many new features but it will make the program easier to use and far simpler to maintain. I'll let you know when it's ready for beta. It shouldn't be long now.
