• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Sample files?

Mr. Johnson,
I have downloaded all three programs to try out. I'm sure I am overlooking something obvious, but am stumped. The Help files for 3d design pro suggests working with one of the sample designs that downloads with the program, but I haven't been able to locate the sample files. The file open dialog allows me to browse, but I'm not seeing sample files in the 3d design pro folder. Could you please direct me to the location of the sample files referred to in the help files? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

If you have windows 8 or 8.1 look in your documents folder for a file called "3D Vessels". Its all in there. If you are on some other version of windows do a search of your "C" drive for 3D Vessels and you should find it.

Ahhh, I do see that folder. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I checked the various program files folders but did not think to check the documents folder. Perhaps, the help file could be modified to point folks in the right direction. Thanks again for helping me to sort it out.

The ReadMe file during the installation points to the location of this file, but like most people, I seldom read ReadMe files. I have now added this information to the the Download Page and so this should make things more clear going forward. Sorry for not making this more clear.

Lloyd

No worries. You are correct, I did not read the readme file as I simply launched from the desktop after installation. Thanks for the response.

Hey Lloyd, any chance you could write a Preview Handler for the 3dp files so that when we go to open one we can see a preview over on the right? I want to look for one to use as a basis or intact but the file names are cryptic and I am forced to repeatedly open one, then another to try and find something appropriate.

Ralph,
This would be pretty easy if the .3dp file was an image file, but unfortunately, it is a small file that just contains x,y coordinates of a few dots. 3D Design PRO then uses those dots to render a 3D image.
What I have done instead is to produce a graphical library of the sample files. If you go to the category 'Software Sample Files' and click on the link for 3D Design PRO Sample Files, you can download a PDF file that contains thumbnails of each sample file, organized by category. It is not ideal, but the code for 3DP has been frozen and all new development funds are going into its replacement which will make all of this a non-issue.
Lloyd

Lloyd, thank you - I had missed the PDF file when I looked previously. Will the 3DP replacement be something that we have to purchase separately??

Ralph,
I am working on software which will be a radical departure in how segmented vessels can be designed. I would call it a Rapid Prototype solution that will let you create a completed 3D vessel adorned with feature rings, tornado patterns, painted segments or other styles of vessels with just a few keystrokes or mouse clicks. Once it is complete, single keystrokes will let you make major modifications such as substituting species palettes, wall profiles, number of segments, closed/open segments, etc.

Many people will find that the new software will handle all of their segmenting needs but others will want to use it in conjunction with Woodturner PRO. It will be able to transfer a Plan to Woodturner PRO for customizations which will not be possible in the next couple years, if ever. I'm developing the software using new, state-of-the-art 3D programming tools which should also let me move towards software that will run natively on an Apple Mac and interface with mobile devices that will let you review calculations and segment layouts for each ring.

The bad news is that the learning curve for what I'm attempting to do is very steep and there are few resources to help me without significant consulting investments. So I don't have a clear idea of the delivery date of the software. I still have a long way to go, but I'm hopeful that I've gotten over some of the biggest obstacles. I'm attaching a couple screenshots to show that I am a long way down a very long road.
