• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

adding spacers

Hello it's me again. I have another question. Is there a way to add 1/8" spacers between segments in a closed form in WT pro. I know how to calculate it on paper but can not find out how on WT pro or if it is possible.

Yes there is.

WTP

Left side of the program window in Row Detail . That is the same area where you entered number of segments, board thickness. ...

Last item is Vertical Spacers. Just enter the thickness (.125 or 1/32 for example)

On the right hand side of the screen in wtp (Project Properties box), you can select the wood species for the spacers from the drop down menu.

There is only a single vertical spacer field so no, the software cannot draw that row. However, if you want to go to the trouble, you can do it. You can create a 'custom species' by using a graphics program such as Photoshop to create an image that has a species in the middle and a strip of a second species on both edges and save that as a JPEG image. You can then go File > Options and add the image as a custom species. You can the use that species as the vertical spacer species.

I doubt it would be worth the effort because it isn't difficult to know what it will look like, but it can be done.

Lloyd.
I have on occasion inserted rings of 1/8 or 1/16 thick for a horizontal veneer layer. Of course the vertical spacer box is used for in between segments.

So from the above picture do the dark vertical pieces have to be mitered or can they be treated as spacers along with the light ones

Only the segment should be cut at the angle given. The vertical spacer(s) must all have parallel sideswhich means zero angle. You can add as many vertical spacers between segments as you like as long as the total width of the spacers is the same between each segment.

The widest element should be the segment with angled ends. All narrower spacers should have parallel sides.

However, this does not have to be the case. As long as just one of the elements has angled ends and the rest have parallel sides, a ring will be formed.

Just remember that the total of all angles must equal 360 degrees. For example, 12 segments have 24 ends and the angle on each end is 15 degrees and 24 x 15 = 360. As long as you add the same width of wood with parallel sides to each angled end of the segment , there will still be 24 ends at 15 degrees.
