• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

need a fudge factor

When I do up a drawing in 3D pro and transfer it to Woodturner Pro is there any way to get a little more meat on the OD. When I look at the individual ring the ring comes right to the edge of the segment. is there a way to increase the OD of the ring prior to turning. Just looking for a bit of a fudge factor

If what you want to do is increase all rings by the same amount it is easy.
1. Click on the bottom ring.
2. Shift/click the top ring.
3. On the right side of the screen is a multi row resize box, click uniform.
4. Click the outside diameter on the left side of the sceen.
5. Press left arrow. The outside diameter will increase by 1/8" each time pressed. If you increase the size too much use the right arrow to decrease the OD.

When done click anywhere to return to the normal (not pre resized) screen. FWIW, when making changes I save the changes under a different name leaving the original alone.

To add to what Stuart has said, with all the segmented rows selected, you can click the Ctrl-left arrow and Ctrl-right arrow to change the inside diameters.

Ok I got it but have another couple of questions.
1- When I look at the Ring view the dotted line is the very OD of the ring and not the OD of the vessel. Right?

2-I am getting measurements of like 3-13/16 and so on. Is it possible to round this off or do you round off in your head.

3- Is there a way to expand the column size of the printable cutting summary. some of the ID OD sizes are cut off because of 13/16 measurements.
example 4-3/16 fits 4-13/16 the 4 is missing

4- Can you change 3-1/4 to 3.250

thank you

That's what I thought. Is there any place that shows the ID OD of the vessel itself. When turning tall vessels I turn as I go and use my full scale drawing to find it
Al

Alan,

You're asking about the ID OD of the vessel and so I assume you mean the inside and outside diameters. The outside diameter of the vessel and the height of the vessel are shown at the right of the status bar at the bottom of the screen. The inside diameter of each ring is shown in the calculations but those are all of the dimensions that are available. If you are looking for something other than that, please let me know what it is and I'll see what I can do.

Sorry Lloyd I am still confused. What I am looking is the finished inside diameter of the vessel. Is there a place where you can enter a wall thickness. With a tall vessel where the tool will not reach it would be nice to know what the inside demension of each ring should be so it can be turned as each ring is glued on. maybe I am asking for more than is capable with the program
Thanks for the help Lloyd

Alan,

Every row does show the inside diameter. The inside diameter is how the software nows how wide of a board you will need from which to cut the segments. The inside diameter shows in the calculations in the left column of the screen and on every line of the Summary View (the printout).

I've never used a wall thickness calculation because you seldom would ant all the rings of a vessel to have the same thickness. Instead you draw the profile you want and the software will snap the diameters to match the profile. If you click the button named 'Show/hide glue line (the icon looks like a glue bottle), you'll see how much glue surface exists between every row. If you want more than the amount shown ,elect all the rows you want to change and click your left mouse button to add 1/8" to each selected row or Cyrl-left/right to add/subtract from the inside dismember. This is a far more beneficial method than using a static wall thickness.

So the inside diameter column on the cutting summary is for the unfinished ring and not the finished ring

No - that wouldn't be a very useful number. Both the outside and inside diameters are for a finished ring where you have turned just enough of the segmented ring so that it is perfectly round on the outside and inside.
