• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Lamination Pro Circles

I can see and I think understand how to cut segments to make a disc. My question is how do you make it a certain size. For example I would like to make a disc with a 6 inch diameter. How do I determine the size of stock?

Stuart,

You can click on the "disk" icon and see a visual of the disk cut from the lamination, be sure to select the number of segments for the disk. When you turn on the "clipping region" option, the desired outside or inside of the disk can be adjusted. The lamination width and cutting length are then played with to achieve the look you want. The problem comes in now. When you chose the "radial" icon, it shows the location of the cuts to make the disk, but the total length of lamination isn't calculating for me either- it shows "0". It seems to me that it used to work on a couple of projects that I did before, did it get lost in an update?

Lloyd, is this a new development?

Jeff,

Are you using build 3.1.008? When I click on Radial, my display shows me both the total lineal laminate required for the number of segments and then another calculation that includes a 20% waste allowance. In build .008, I completely redid the calculations based on new algorithms and for the first time, I was confident that the numbers were correct. If you're not on .008, click the Downloads button and install it from there. You don't have to uninstall anything first.

There's a good possibility that I'm missing what you are looking at, though. If so, give me more details.

Stuart,

Jeff is right in that you just need to click the 'Disk' toolbar button and then click the Clipping Region box and give it a diameter. It is trial and error to get your design to fill the diameter, though. An easy way to do this is to click on the dropdown box for 'Cut Width' so that it becomes selected. You can then start clicking your up and down arrows to scroll through the various cut widths. Once you're there, click the 'Radial' button and you should see how much stock you will need.

Lloyd,

Yes, I have 3.1.008. When I use the radial button, it shows the two measurement lines but reports the length as zero inches. It seems to me that I used this previously, but can not be positive about it. I am using Windows 7 Home Edition.

Jeff,

I believe I understand now. If you are displaying just the laminated board and not a particular generation, the calculations show 0". So it looks like I did all the complex calculations but failed to to the simplest one.

I'll have to dig into the code to see what happened.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Lloyd, how / where is the 'Downloads' button so I can get the new version? Thanks, Ed

I don't know why I'm having such an issue understanding what should be a simple procedure. My goal is to turn a simple segmented disc with 5" diameter. My current question is cutting the segments using the radial cut diagram. I'm fairly certain I can line the cuts up but is the board flipped after each cut the same as cutting a normal ring? I'll use a laser to align the cuts.

Stuart,
You have two options, and I have done them both, to cut radial segments. First, since every cut will be made through the dead center (vertically) of the board, you can cut it just as you would cut segments from a board: you make your first cut and then flip the board edge to edge and make your next cut without having to change the angle, and so on. This is an easy method, but only if the board is straight and the strips were glued with good alignment.

Second, you can cut the board into strips, all at the same angle as you do when cutting strips for a next generation and then cut those strips at the proper angle to make two identical pie shaped segments from the strips.
