3D Design Pro Transfer to WTP not working

I cannot "transfer to WTP" from 3D Design. The button is de-highlighted.

I suspect the problem is that 3D Design cannot find WTP program. The other problem is I use Linux and am trying to run the programs under Wine. They seem to work except for the transfer part. I cannot seem to find a setting for where the WTP is located. I was wondering if this was the problem.

Thanks,

Wes

Hi Wes,

Both 3D Design PRO and Woodturner PRO have to be running before you can perform a transfer. If both programs are running and IF 3DP is able to find WTP, then the transfer button becomes availabe in 3DP. We use Inter Process Communications to establish the data link between the two programs. This allows one program to locate the other from locating it in the program memory space of the PC.

This is one of many ways that two programs can talk to each other and we have found this to be very reliable on Windows. Parallels has implemented memory management identically to how it is done on Windows and the transfer works perfectly. I cannot speak to how Wine has implemented their memory management, though, and have no way of testing it. I do have a recommendation, though - do a complete Shutdown of Windows and then reboot. There have been times where memory management has become unstable on Windows and a reboot has always corrected it.

That did it! Did not realize needed both running.

If anyone asks you if your software will work with Linux you can tell them "Yes, by using Wine". Wine is not an emulator but a run time environment for Windows running natively in Linux. Not all Windows programs run in Wine but I have found many do.

Thanks for this awesome program!

Here's another scenario: I am running Windows 8. Both WTP and 3DP are working well--except when I try to transfer design to WTP. I have both running at the same time. The transfer icon is not grayed out, but nothing happens when I tap it. Thanks for any information. Tom J.

Tom,

I transfer all the time in Windows 8 so that should not be an issue. Sometimes, the Memory Manager in Windows acts quirky. If that happens, perform a complete shutdown and then startup again. Make sure that both 3DP and WTP are running and there should be no reason that the two programs cannot find each other in the memory space.

Lloyd,

I did as you suggested by shutting down and restarting. The design in 3dp does not transfer to wtp. Would there be any argument for reinstalling these programs?
