Something for beginner

question
Do you have Lloyd's software (Woodturner Pro or Segment Pro?)
If you do I would be happy to share one of the plans or help you do a design.

Yes, I have both. I'm trying to learn the procedure. Your help would DEFINATELY be appreciated. (what happened with my font?) I just want to make a bowl. Maybe 8"x4". Maybe some simple design with Maple & Walnut or whatever. It doesn't matter. Form 1st then function. Thanks

give me a day or two. I will provide a plan for WTP .

- for your first bowl it will be kept simple with 12 segments per ring and using maple and walnut.

here is a simple bowl I have used when I teach segment bowl making
It is roughly 9 inch diameter at the top and 3.5 inch tall.
12 segments per ring.
Material used is maple and walnut. 1/2 thick stock

So how do I find the cutting list?? I'm not familiar (yet) with WTP or SP. Lots of tabs. I feel like a monkey looking at a watch. I'm sure I'll get it in time.

A couple of ways.
- Go to View, from the drop menu select Cutting Summary View
- or you can click on the icon

I highly recommend you watch the tutorials. While some are dated they provide a good overview of WTP and 3Ddesign pro.
If the video mentions a featured like grid it was available in earlier versions of WTP but was removed in later updates do to it really added nothing to the building a vessel in WTP.

So I would rip a board 1/2", 9/16",21/32...etc?? Cut 12 segments of each with stop set at Edge length??

all boards are 1/2 in thick

Ring 1 is a disk of walnut 5 5/8 in diameter.
Ring 2 you need your stock ripped to 1 7/16" wide , 19 1/2 long + 3" fudge factor for a total length of 22 1/2 long

Ring 3 you need both maple and walnut stock ripped to 1 1/8 wide, add a minimum of 3" to the length needed in the cut list
You need to make 8 maple and 4 walnut segments.
WTP only gives you the length of material for the ring. You can round up for safety.

etc.

Is there a way that I can talk to you in private?? Are you ever available for a phone call?? Email??
We could use the conversation section of this web site. It is the envelop by your login name on the top menu bar.

I just started a conversation with you. Click on the envelop to open the message.

I’m not currently at home so I can’t look this up, but I’m pretty sure you received a Flash Drive with your order. On that drive is a folder named ‘Content’ and it has a lot of things in it include about a dozen projects. These projects each have about 20 pages of photos and instructions on how to build it. Take a look at ‘Kevin’s Bowl’ as it is the perfect beginner project. You’ll also find a lot of other goodies including jigs, tips and tricks, and presentations I have made on various segmenting topics.

I never got the flash drive. Or I might have tossed it with the packaging. Is there another place I can view this??

Since you bought both software and hardware, the flash drive would have been in your hardware package.
I have just mailed you a replacement flash drive.

I believe you'll like what you find in the Content folder.
