Opening files?

Once I download a .json file and go to the directory where it is at, I click the file and it asks me what program I want to use to open file. Only SP is not an option.
So how do I get files open once saved in My Documents/My SP?
I can see them there, just can't open them.
Thank you.

What I generally do is to start Segment Pro (SP).
In SP go to Share / Import.
the default folder is my segment pro. (if that is not where the file is, go to that folder and highlight the file
click on open.
You should get a message that either the plan or the profile was successfully imported.

Go to plan, select the file to open.

Yes, I get and understand all that. It tells me that the plan was saved successfully. I open My Documents, then My Segment pro, and there they are, as you said. I click on the .json file to open it, and I get a pop-up that asks me what program I want to use to open said file.
I have attached a screenshot of what pops when trying to open it the file.
The file is in My Documents/My Segment Pro, I can see them, just can't open them.
Probably something that I am missing or doing wrong. Or both. LOL
Thank you, Mike!

I have never opened a SP file by clicking on it. I always open the plan or profile within SP. That is, start SP, pull up plan, select it and it opens.
With what you are trying to do there would be no need for an import function.

I take it you can find the plan within SP and it opens, right?

This is what I did and the steps I took. I was reading a thread, they had a .json file posted, so I clicked it, saved it, which it did as a .json file. Said file saved successfully. As soon as I save it, the drop-down box asks me what program I want to use to open file, only SP isn't listed.
When I try to find and open said file in SP, it is neither in Profile nor Plans folder.
I can find the file within file explorer but wants me to choose a program to open it up. SP isn't there.
I have tried and tried to figure it out before bothering anyone to no avail.
We'll get it figured out. Probably something that I am missing in the software.
Thank you!

Alan:
When you said "file saved" was that windows saying the file was saved or was it SP saying the file was saved?
Again, json files must be imported into SP to be able to use. That is done under the Share function.

Files found this forum you would:
- save file to your pc.
- Start Segment Pro
- In SP go to Share / Import
- In import go to where the file was saved, select it.
- The plan should show up in the plan list within SP.

Windows.
I have tried again. Open the .json file, 2024-7-12-18-39-26.json, it saves it to Windows. If I try to open it from there, it wants me to choose a program. I close that drop-down box. I open SP, go to Share/Import, click on the file I want to open, it says "Plan imported successfully".
Now when I go to Plans, or even Profiles, it is nowhere to be found. I have shut down SP, reopened it, it is still not there.
Will the file name, in this case, 2024-7-12-18-39-26.json, stay named this? If that is the case, it is not in either SP Plans or Profiles.

Alan.
Try this:
Start SP
Go to Share / Import
select 2024-7-12-18-39-26.json from the SP import menu

You need to bring in the json file from within a running SP by using the Share / Import.

also, where did you find the 2024-7-12-18-39-26.json file on the Forum? I would like to download it and see if I have an issue bringing it into SP.

I have tried that several times.
That file I was trying to open I can't find again. I found a random one and tried it.
That thread is in Segmented Turnings Forum, dated 20Nov2023, titled SEL formula.
I click on then file, and instantly the Windows download drop box opens and asks if I want to or save. I click Save As.
It saves it into the SP program. When I open the SP program, click Import, it opens the file folder for SP. I click on the file it says Plan Opened Successfully. And now when I try to open the file, it shuts down SP.
I don't know.

Thanks Alan for the info.
I went to SEL thread in the Segmented Turning forum and downloaded the json file.
I successfully imported the plan. It is nothing special. It is what one member posted to discuss some SEL questions.

The file may have become corrupted. My recommendation is to find another file to download. The image below is the vessel you are trying to bring in.

Allan.
Give this one a try. I exported one of my vessel plans.

I just brought it back into SP without issue.
When I saved this file from the forum it saved to the download folder.
Having SP up and running I went to Share / Import and moved to the download folder.
selected the file and the plan came in ok.
