• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Profile snap

I am trying to figure out the way to use the tool "Profile snap" It does not do what I have seen in one of the videos.

I did not find any infomation in the help file of WTP.

Could someone explain briefly how it should be used?

Tank you

Bertrand,
The best way to try it is to start by opening a sample vessel that has an inside and outside wall profile.

  1. In 3DP, go File > Open and browse to '3D Vessels' in your Documents folder. Select a closed or open form vessel.
  2. In Woodturner PRO, go File > New to give you a blank screen.
  3. From 3DP, click the 'Transfer to WTP' toolbar button (looks like a small segmented vessel.
  4. Switch to WTP and from the dialog, give the vessel either a width or a height and press OK.
  5. Your 3DP wall profile should now be in WTP. Start clicking the New Row button with just defaults until the rows of segments reach the top of the wall profile.
  6. Click Profile-SNAP.

One thing you should do is to check the version number of Woodturner PRO by going File > About Woodturner PRO. If you're not on Version 3.0.029, you should upgrade as there have been some changes that include changes to Profile-SNAP. Click the Downloads link in the Main Menu and scroll down until you see the Woodturner PRO v3 installation file. You don't need to uninstall or anything - the new installation will overwrite your existing one.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Tank you Lloyd, that is a fast reply!!!

Now I know what was wrong, I did not have an inside and outside wall profile. I was using one of the urns model

One more thing, your download link shows version 3.0.028 which is the version I have. Does this link load version 3.0.029 now?

Tank you for your attention

That software is a pleasure to use. So far I have made 3 candy bowls and two salad bowl and planning in making a funeral urn

Yes,it will install 3.0.029. I must have forgotten to update that. I'll change it now.

When you're ready to make the funeral urn, send me the 3dp wall profile you want to use and the weight of the deceased and il. Tell you how tall it needs to be.

Tank you Lloyd,

I have quite a good idea how to get the available volume. Here is how I figure it out

I use the inside diameter of each row to calculate the volume of it and I do that for each row that form the usable space for the ashes, I add it all together and I get very close to the available volume

One more thing, The update link seem to not work properly

Yes, that method will work fine. The way that I do it is to take the inside wall profile of your 3DP design into SketchUp and make a vessel of it and then us a plugin to calculate the volume of it. It takes about five minutes, but it is completely accurate as it uses the bezier curves to make the calculation.

It would be great if you could post a picture of yours when you're done. There are a number of members who have had the honor of making a burial urn and unfortunately, there isn't a lot of material on the subject available.

Happy New Year!

I fixed the link, but was mistaken in that the latest published build of WTP is 3.0.28. I'll have a significant WTP upgrade posted in a week or so.

For SketchUp, I use Volume Calculator v2.1.
You'll also need the Bezier plugin called BezierSpline. It contains a number of Bezier curve tools, but the Cubic Bezier tool works identical to the one I use in 3D Design PRO so once you import the profile from 3DP, you can just click on the dots with that tool.
