In the attached photos of a bowl apart from the walnut base and the padauk/sapele lamination it is entirely made of maple :).

Yes it is torrefied eastern maple. Lee Valley Tools use it to make tool handles, especially planes. One of the local LV stores was selling offcuts. It machines, sands and finishes beautifully! Sanding to 600 grit with no finish even brings out a very nice luster. It can be a little brittle so very sharp tools are needed for turning.
