• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Two problems and two questions

When I first installed the trial version I somehow accidentally deleted just the label of the very top item in the drop down list of Profiles I think it was as I'm not on the PC as I type this. I tried as Lloyd suggested by running the installer and clicking Repair. Didn't help. Then I tried Modify, same, finally I used Windows' Control Panel to remove it and reinstalled it. Still have the issue. Short of hacking the registry with RegEdit I'm lost.

The second problem is printing. Despite setting the Windows Display font to the size he recommended and to 100% it still cuts off the last 1/3 of the Summary when I print it to paper. I'd have to use the Lasso to take a screenshot and paste thet then print the screen shot, not an elegant approach.

Two questions.

Can I remove a Row? After viewing all the tutorials I successfully input a photo of one of the hot air balloons I turn. It created a nice Profile. But I'd like to know if there's a way to remove a row or two. I can change the size from say 10 inches tall to 6 inches but I'd still like to remove a row. Is this even possible?

Second question. Can I change the wood strip width? Is this possible too?

Much appreciate any help. Thanks.

Paul

- the trail version is a fully functional version of the software.
I would suggest you talk to Lloyd again regarding the label in the Profile drop down list.

- In Segment Pro I know of no way to remove a single row. (you can in WoodTurnerPro).
- In SP you can set the Row Thickness from the Bowl setting window. It will use that thickness for all rings (except featured ring) features.
- In StoryBoard there are thickness settings for Top, Base and Accent rows as well as the thickness of the featured ring.

WTP gives you full control. As Lloyd has stated in another thread SP is rules based WTP is not.
You can easily bring in your photo into 3DDesign , create a profile and bring it into WTP to build your vessel.

(A while back I had another software giving me problems (NOT Lloyd's) and tried the same thing you did in doing a Repair, then removal of the program and reinstall. I did have to go into the registry and clean things up and reinstall before it worked like it should). I would get in touch with Lloyd before go into the registry.

Hope it works out for you.

Thanks. So you know of no way to remove a single row.
At this point I don't really want to learn two more programs though.

In Segment Pro. No, I know of no way to remove a single row in SP.
Curious, What is the purpose of removing a single row? Which one would be removed.

If you have a completed SP plan. You could do a share/export and attach the *.json file to a post. That would allow commenters to take a look at it.
Tell use what row you want removed, size of the vessel, (height, width), number of rings, etc. . I would be willing to create it in WTP and then recreate it in SP and attach the files to a post.

Hope it works out for you.

Thank you kindly sir. That would be most appreciated. I’ll have to do it tomorrow as I’m fixin’ to go to bed. Thanks.

- If you have a spreadsheet program you can export the summary from SP to the spreadsheet. I use Microsoft Excel. From there I can edit the summary sheet and print it. I have had no printing issues doing it that way. By default SP exports it to My Segment Pro / Spreadsheets.

As far as learning new programs if you are doing ok with SP you will pick up WTP in no time. 3DDesign is not bad either. It has a decent help section. WTP and 3DDesign based on older programing. If you decide to give them a try, there are members here that can help you through the learning curve.

Here's the file. It doesn't matter which row I guess, I'd like just 6 or seven total rows. Height would be 5 inches by 4.5 inches wide.

Thanks mfisher. I only use Macs. I have a PC but only use it for a Lockheed Martin simulation. Nothing else ever, no email, no surfing, I don't even have MS Office. I do have a spreadsheet on my iMac I use but I don't know if it'll import Excel files. Honestly, and no offense, I really have no desire to use WTP or 3DDesign. I simply don't have the time or desire to. My life is filled with so many other things that complicate it so I'm not going to take the time to learn something I'm not motivated to use. I do appreciate all the help but it was all I could do to learn Segment Pro.

Not only do I suffer with severe rheumatoid arthritis to the point that I live in constant pain but I have many other things I like to do. I write short stories, make comics, woodwork of course, spend a lot of time in aviation as that's where I spent my career, I have a disabled diabetic wife I have to take care of, I read a lot, and study quantum physics. Sorry for the personal info, I just wanted to give you an idea of my day. Turning segmented things is very nice and it's also very creative but it's not my main focus. This is just another thing to do for charity work.

I forgot to upload the file. Here it is. Many thanks and again, I'm sorry if I come across the wrong way as the keyboard is an emotionless form of communication.

Good Morning Paul
Thanks for the json file. It loaded just fine.

- The project shows the vessel is
5 " in height.
ring height of 0.5", 16 segments per ring, disk bottom and 9 segmented rings

Yes, you can change the wood strip width. To change the required wood strip width by changing the WALL WIDTH in the Bowl Setting window.

I played around with your plan. Segment Pro is rules based. The only way to I know of to reduce the number of rings is to increase the ROW Thickness. I changed the vessel ROW thickness to 0.75 . The results is a vessel with a disk bottom and 6 segmented rings for a total of 7. By doing so the the top ring changed in outside diameter to 3.7 compared to your original 3.1.

In your design you have a walnut disk and the second row is a segmented walnut ring. I changed row 2 to a ring made up of walnut, maple, cherry
That was to give one more ring for the spiral design. It also balances the disk walnut bottom with the top of walnut.

Personally, I would go with your design. It is only a couple more rings to build and is more attractive in my opinion.

Attached is the design I created based on your plan. Hope it works out for you.

Thank you again Mr. Fisher. I don't understand the phrase "rules based."
I'm finally able to take it from my Mac with a USB and load it into the PC. I'm gonna do that in a few minutes and check it out.

I like this program a lot. If only I could get it to print correctly :(

Lloyd would be able to explain the "rules based" since he wrote the program. Basically there are some standards that have been used for years in designing a segmented vessel. For example, the featured ring is generally located at the widest part of the vessel. That is why in SP when a featured ring type is selected the feature may be at the top of the vessel (v shape profile) or it may be in the middle if that is where the widest part is.

There are also common design practices that most rings are uniform in thickness (height). The sets the height of the ring, the vessel height and SP calculates the number of rings that will be stacked to create the desired vessel.

SP was written to speed up and simply the design process. It is for those who do not want to spend a lot of time designing. A few clicks and your done. I appreciate your thoughts on not wanting to learn or use new software. WTP was Lloyd's first program. It has been around 20 years or so with improvements made to it. By not being "rules" based the user is free to design a vessel pretty much anyway they like. Different heights for rings, varying number of segments per ring, etc.

Each program has its strengths. SP will serve you well. Just realize it has some limits.

We are here to help. That is what makes the forum educational for us all. We all learn something new each day.

This is very odd. I loaded you .json file and I got totally different results than what you described.
First, it came through with .50 for thickness, I had to change it to .75.
Then, nowhere did I see 3.7 OR 3.1.
I wonder what got lost in transit?
And the very top of my balloons are never segments, neither are the bottoms as I use solid rings for them. I couldn't find a way to change the top ring to a solid ring but no matter, I can do it at glue-up.
I guess I have to mess with it a lot more. I can't do much now as I have other things that need attention.
Thanks for you help and patience.

I may have loaded the wrong file or forgot to save it. Give me a bit and will try again.

I just downloaded the json file from post 9. It seems ok.
Sorry I was not more clear. Take a look at the summary sheet for row 7 (Top ring). It has an outside diameter of 3.7 Your plan has 10 rows. Row 10 is the top ring and has an outside diameter of 3.1".

I did a screen capture of the bowl settings from post 9 json file. It has .75 row thickness. Wall width is .5
