• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Still struggling

Help
Segment pro is not doing what the videos say it should be doing.
When I paint a profile then go to summary, the species list is empty
When I use feature ring, the ring is all the way to the top. I've can't move it by dragging or using the "move segment" button.
When I use storyboard, no matter what I do in there, change species or measurements or anything, when I go back to bowl view, the accent rings are gone and I can do nothing to bring them back. I've watched the tutorials multiple times and they don't address these issues
I also don't have the button that allows me to view the finished product in different settings
What am I missing

Going to answer your questions one at a time. You stated:
"When I paint a profile then go to summary, the species list is empty"

After you painted your design did you change the number of segments per ring?
If you did that will mess up the summary table. Clear/reset your design in the paint window
You will have to re paint your design.

I need to see your database ( *.json ) file to answer most of your questions
Pull up you project in SP
Go to Share / export.
It will create a copy *.json file in your "My Segment Pro" folder.
attach that file to a new post.

My suspect your vessel is not tall enough. Increase the height of your vessel.

Without knowing your exact setup I can't address this. Another reason it would be helpful to have your json file.

I also don't have the button that allows me to view the finished product in different settings
Not sure what you are saying here.

I'm working on getting that for you but the last question; in the tutorial videos the screen had a button on the lower right. it would show your project in different settings like on a coffee table or on a dinning room table

I have never used that feature. Thanks for clarifying.
Your json project plan (first try) imported ok.

Row 7 in your plan is coming up with "not found". You have a species (image) that I don't have in my pallet.
So I don't know what design you did or wood selected for row 7.
In the pallet section column- Featured is whatever you have.
It looks like you painted row 6 and 8 with mahogany. Row 7 is your featured image.
If that is what you did you cannot move the "featured" ring up or down because at this stage all you have is 3 painted rings.
- The bowl setting is for painted segments.

If you have a species in your featured ring section of the pallet please attach it. I will then add it to mine so we are looking at the same thing.
The image wood species should be in your My Segment Pro / Species folder in your document folder.

I will post again with some explanation on how to do a featured ring using the story board.

As you should know, Segment PRO was designed to make ‘standard’ Segmented bowls. There are two kinds of standard feature ring bowls, though. First is the closed forms consisting of vases, SW designs, etc. and all of these have similar features. The top is smaller in diameter than the rest of the bowl, the feature ring is towards the vertical center of the bowl and is almost always the widest ring of the bowl and finally, in addition to the primary feature group there is a feature group at the top and the bottom of the bowl, both consisting of a special ring and an accent ring.

The other type of bowl is the open form bowl where the widest part of the bowl is at the top or near the top of the bowl. In an open form like this, the feature ring always goes at the top of the bowl. Since the primary feature group goes at the top of the bowl, there is no need for the upper feature group and so it is automatically deleted and there is no reason to move the feature ring down so that functionality is disabled. Does that mean you can’t have it some other way? No - you can have it any way you want. Segment PRO is a rules-based approach to building standard Segmented bowls. Woodturner PRO isn’t a rules based program. It does whatever you want it to do. You add each ring, you select the type of ring and all of the details of every row down to the Segment level. You are in complete control. Woodturner PRO is the most powerful segmenting program ever writer and that’s the good news and the bad news. The bad news is that you have to do all the work whereas Segment PRO does most of the work for you. It is far faster to use because of this.

So the key it’s knowing what you want to do before you start. If you are making a gift, donation, cremation urn, SW design, those can always be standard bowls and you should use Segment PRO to get into the shop quickly. But if you want to make something that isn’t standard, Woodturner PRO is your only option.

You should start with Segment PRO. Once you have built several bowls, give Woodturner PRO a try. You’ll immediately see why you should use one or the other.

With regards to the 3D spaces in which you can see your bowl in Segment PRO, the 3D field is in the place it shows in the tutorial - in the Bowl Details window at the bottom of your screen. If you don’t see it, you are likely using a laptop with only 768 vertical lines and the standard is now 1080 and has been for many years although you can still get one with 768. If you have low resolution, you will have a scrollbar at the right of your screen that lets you see the fields not shown by default. I have placed the most seldom used fields at the bottom so that you don’t have to do much scrolling.

if you don’t have small resolution, you have incorrect display options set on your computer and I’ll be glad to help you fix them using screen sharing. You need to install Zoom Video for this and then call me at 503-781-5117. It will only take a couple minutes and then I can help you with Segment PRO training as well.

clipboard 1 is an example of SP using featured ring on a open form vessel. SP places the featured ring at the top and can't be moved.
Clipboard 2 is an example of SP using featured ring on a closed form vessel and the default position of the featured ring
Clipboard 3 is the same vessel using the move feature in SP to place the featured ring in a different location.
As Lloyd said, to obtain full control of your design WTP is the software to use. SP is more those who don't want to spend a lot of time designing and are ok with standard design rules.
