• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Gluing up individual segmented pieces.

What are some good ways to clamp the individual pieces of a ring together? I have tried different size metal clamps according to the size of the ring, rubber bands, tape etc. open to all suggestions. Thanks for the help

My go to is the Hose clamp. Mine vary in size from a few inches up to 12 inches. Some have been chained together to give me the size I want. These work well for gluing full rings and if you need to 1/2 rings as well. I have found if I am gluing very small segments ( 60 or more) that with the hose clamp I also cut a circle of thin stock (MDF/ panel) to put in the middle of the ring to help keep it round. I also put scotch tape around that circle to make it easier to get it out.

My most recent project was with Stave rings. Those I did mostly glue in half rings but a few worked out perfectly. I will lay these out and tape the joints, apply glue ( except 2 opposing joins if doing 1/2 rings) and then roll it into the ring adding more tape around the outside as the taper tends to make the hose clamps slide. Gorilla tape seems to have a great grip.

Thanks that's a good idea. I hadn't thought of using a piece of mdf. I always have pieces of that around from the sleds I've built, thanks again.

Check out this simple jig for a clamp. I made one a few years ago and for me works better than hose clamps.

This is an example of how I do the centre circle. I also use a piece of MDF to sandwich the ring and clamp it to make it flat so the centre circle needs to be thinner than the segments. You can search "Closed Segment Project 1441" on this site that showed my process. Might not be the best way but works for me.

I like it, another way to go, thanks for the pic.

A little bit of fussing to get the circle just the right size, too tight and the segments won't squeeze together. I use my disc sander and a jig to spin the circles round and adjust until they are just right. I do keep them for future project as they can always be made smaller :)
