• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Hello Everybody,
I've been woodturning for about 22 years here in Norway after I retired. I also do a lot of other types of woodworking. I have done some segmented turning based on Malcom Tibbett's methods, mostly experimenting with pine, and a few hardwoods. Tropical hardwoods have been hard to come by here, but that situation has improved somewhat, which encouraged me give it a go again. Also, I didn't much like using a sanding jig, though it worked well enough, but was a bit time consuming and dusty even with dust removal. I have ordered a set of wedgies and I will be building the sled to go with them, so that should take the sanding jig out of the equation.

I had the original Woodturner Pro program along with the lamination and design programs which worked really well for me, and I am about to purchase the Segment Pro program and the updated Woodturner Pro. While I'm awaiting my wedgies, I will be building my sled. I am wondering if a digital angle finder/protractor is accurate enough for the angles not available on wedgies as I already have a digital angle finder and it would save me the expense of buying plastic angles.

My rather modest lathe is a Record 1/2 HP with a 12" swing and an outboard tool rest that increases the capacity to 18". It has been surprisingly reliable over the last 22 years and I have done some pretty demanding work on it without ever experiencing any difficulties with it at all. Of course it would be nice with something bigger and better, but not worth the investment at my age.

I'm glad to be a member of this forum with access to so many experience segmented turners. I'm sure I will learn a lot here and enjoy having a dialog with you. Below is a photo of my lathe set-up.

Welcome to the forum Mike. Pretty strange two new forum members on the same day from Norway, must be a trend. You might want to contact Steinar, I don't know how close you two are but you might be able to share sources. Your upgrade on both Woodturner PRO and Lamination PRO should be free if you had previously bought it. You would only have to download and install the newer version.
Looks like you are all set up and ready to go, so any question please fell free to ask away.
Yes, I know of several people that use a digital angle finder to set up their wedgie sled, it should work fine, you might have to tweek it a little but it should work. I have used AutoCad to layout the angles for both 60 and 96 segment rings and the cut them from paper and use that and it has worked.

Thanks for the welcome Bob. Yes, I will get in touch with Steinar. I have a sliding sled I made out of ply and today I set up a two fence configuration like on the wedgie sled and a stop all fastened with two sided tape. I cut a 24 segement ring from some pine and it came out perfect the first time even with the rougher cut and even though I forgot to mark the wood with with a sharpie. I was pretty surprised and also very pleased. I'm not planning to use my bandsaw for segment cutting, but it's good to know that both the angle finder and the bandsaw works!

On another subject; My old Woodturner Pro, Lamination Pro, and Design Pro were lost when my old Windows based computer went out and I bought a MAC instead, but I now also have a Windows computer to put it on and I am buying the package with the updated Woodturner Pro as mine was the old version.

Lloyd made me an offer for the Segment Pro and the rest of the package with the updated Woodturner Pro with a 25% overall discount. The problem is that I put the discount percentage into the coupon area of the shopping cart and it didn't work. I sent an email to Lloyd, but haven't heard from him yet. He is probably enjoying the holidays, but just in case he missed it can you let him know when he is available? Thanks for any help with this.

Thanks mfisher. My apologies, I didn't really mean to post this for everybody to see and I don't want it to seem like I'm complaining about the service as I'm not really worried about being treated properly. It was just a little thoughtlessness on my part.

I didn't take it that way. Just wanted you to know Lloyd is great at responding and fixing problems.
Again, welcome to the forum. Take advantage and post some of your work in the gallery.

Silly me. I had given him a code from memory that was wrong. The right one gave him a better discount anyway so all is well.

Mike,

I was in Norway a couple years ago and we had a wonderful time. I’ve been working with Steinar over email for many years but have never met him. As it turns out, though, he lives just a few miles from where my descendant’s farm was and I’m looking forward to going back and he said he will show me around the area. I can’t wait.

On my next trip, I’ll give you a call and see if there will be an opportunity to get together with you. As a photographer, I hope to make a winter trip to go north for some Northern lights pictures.

Happy New Year, my new friend!
Lloyd

Hi Lloyd,
Good to hear from you. It would be very nice to see you visit us here. Please email me or call if you would like to meet up. We live about 25 minutes south of Stavanger by car. You can also take a train if you want. Just give me enough advance notice to clean up my shop before you arrive! I would be happy to give you a guided tour to some of the spectacular nature in our area where you can get some fantastic photos. and all within a short drive. Summer is the best time to come, but of course you are welcome anytime.

Just a reminder, that I tried the revised discount code you gave me, but it didn't work. The price in the shopping cart was not reduced after entering and applying the code. I will be buying a back-up disk in addition to the other programs. I would appreciate it if you could check this out so I can order the package. I can't wait to get started! Thanks for your help with this.

Happy New Year to you too!
Mike

Can you email me your phone number using the Contact Us form? I’ll give you a call and make sure the order gets input correctly. I’ve already verified that the code is working so I’m not sure what the issue is. It doesn’t matter, though - I’ll make it work. :->

We spent a couple nights at Stavanger and had a great time. We took a boat up the Fjord past Pulpit Rock. I wanted to climb it, but the five others weren’t up for the trek. It would have been difficult for me, but now that I’ve dropped 40 pounds and am walking five miles every day, it will not be a problem. I also want to stand on the round rock lodged between the two cliffs and I understand that isn’t far from Stavanger.

For those that haven’t seen these things, I’ll post a picture of both of them.

Thanks for the reply Lloyd. I will email you my phone no.

The Pulpit rock or Prekestolen as we call it was closed not to long ago while Tom Cruise was filming there for his upcoming Mission Impossible film, so lucky you missed that! The climb isn't too bad. Quite a few years ago some Dutch lady tourists tried it with high heeled shoes on. I don't think that went well.

The boat trip you took was on Lysefjord. There is a mountain drive that winds down to the end of Lysefjord where the ferryboat landing is with some spectacular views of the fjord and surrounding farms from high up. My wife and I are 78 with bone problems so we aren't doing much walking these days unfortunately as we used to be very active.

Nice to be here with you Mike.

I was just outside Oslo at the Air Base there for 6 months in 1996
