• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

I think it was about 12 inches. I no longer have that piece in my possession.

Thanks Dale, I got it and it makes more sense to me now.

I'd be interested in seeing the .crv file. I think I follow the description, but the file would be awesome.

Segment Pro Outer Diameter Math Error?

I'm wondering if SP is calculating the ring with the "tips" cut off to get a true circle, while the excel formula is going tip to tip, or maximum circumference.

Understanding 'First Cut' in Lamination Pro

On the attached drawing, it appears that 'First Cut' refers to 'A', the width of the actual slice. But when I cut this on my miter saw, I need to know 'B'. It depends how what type of saw is used. I use a table saw instead of a miter saw. I cut the first angle, measure at 90 degrees to the cut...

Still having issues with cutting consistent thin strips on table saw

I would check the angle on the board after taking one segment off. For instance, if the angle is exactly 45 degrees, the board should have exactly 135 degrees left on it. Your chevrons looked pretty good as they are.

Still having issues with cutting consistent thin strips on table saw

I believe the board width will greatly depend on how accurate the angle is when cut. The software showed a cut width of 7/8", so the repeating unit should be 1.75". Is that the case? I concern myself with the repeating unit width more so than the board width. Repeating units will give the circle...

Still having issues with cutting consistent thin strips on table saw

Make sure you are measuring perpendicular to the saw cuts and not the distance from blade to fence or stop. If the first segment is not 1.0 inches wide, then each cut magnifies the problem. I use a waste piece of wood to get the measurement as perfect as possible before using the laminate.

How to measure first cut width

Another mistake I made the first couple of times- a repeating unit is two parts that make the chevron, and that equals one segment width in WTP. I had a couple of bowl feature rings that turned into thin vases because I only cut half of the total parts needed. That led to the lesson of making a...

How to measure first cut width

The cut width should be the measurement of "C" in your picture. It is the actual width of the piece when cut, perpendicular to the cut edge. It can be tricky to dial in, but will make a big difference in the final designs. Of course, each error adds up quickly when making the second and third cuts.

    Summary Data vs Actual?

I tend to get too stingy with the wood and learned long ago to make the ring larger and just turn to the finish size. I also optimize the measurements to save time.

    simple disc in Lamination Pro

Here is a presentation that Lloyd made using the radial cuts. Maybe this will help explain some of the concepts in a different way. Keep working at it, it will come together.

    simple disc in Lamination Pro

There are no dimensions, you have to draw the red lines on the repeating units yourself. I'm sure there is a mathematical dimension that can be had, but cutting through the dead center of each unit is more accurate than using an edge length. That is the only way to be sure the pattern is...

    simple disc in Lamination Pro

Now I get it. You are right, the lamination glue up looks good. This wedge looks like the cuts are not being made through the center of the incline/decline designs. In the software example, click on the "radial" button (1st gen) and the cut lines show going through the exact center of the...

    simple disc in Lamination Pro

I guess I need to see a picture of what the issue is. When I glue up chevrons, I try and do them all at once. I line up the tips of the chevrons with a ruler instead of relying on the tips of the cut pieces. Accuracy in cutting is imperative. I also use digital calipers to measure the width of...

    simple disc in Lamination Pro

I opened the "Sweetheart Clock" sample file, clicked on the first gen button, then the disc button to see the results as if I only did a first gen glue up. By playing with the lamination width and degrees of cut, the pattern can be changed easily. As always, having the lamination strips being as...

Suggestion for a new feature in SP

Thanks, but I was thinking of you adding the feature of non brick lay painting to SP for beaded illusions. I didn't know if it had moved up the priority list at all yet.

Suggestion for a new feature in SP

It just dawned on me, if this comes to fruition I would use a palette of generic colors instead of wood species. I imagine I could make a custom palette the same was as making one with wood species.

Suggestion for a new feature in SP

As you have guessed, I'm not worried about building the vessel the design is on. I'm just looking for a quicker way to make the designs and experiment with patterns. I would probably only use the paint view and not the ring view to color the patterns in. Seeing the vessel or platter in 3D would...
