    S.E.L. question

Since the actual circumference of the vessel ring is going to be below the edge lengths surface such precision is moot. If you are worried about having a precise finished dimension you can make the sel a bit longer and the segment width correspondingly wider so you will have more room in the...

    Image size

I dont mind sharing images of my work and do that on other woodturning sites but this site will not handle the same files saying they are too big. Does this site not have automatic resizing? Seems nowadays this problem is a relic of the past.

gluing up thin high count segmented rings

Have you tried a noose type band? You may need to assemble on a platform that will allow for the thicker handle of the noose clamp, with the disk on top sized to allow correcting any distortion that crops up.

Having trouble with Southwest segment length

That and a centering cone or longworth chuck mounted on the tailstock should get easy repeatable results.

    Volume calculations?

Thanks! I’ll need to look at that.

    Volume calculations?

Does the software have the capability to calculate the volume of a vessel created in it? That would be quite helpful in creating properly sized urns for cremations.

    adding spacers

Simple to subtract the thickness of the spacers from the length of the segment to get a closer approximation of the ring size. If you really want to get close measure the divider across at the same angle as the segment cut. You’ll be treating the two as a single segment from that point.

I finally found what was going on with my Ipad. Seems Safari had inadvertently been opened in a “private” window and went unnoticed. Took me a bit to figure out how to get out of that but now all is well.

I’ve been having that problem too on my Ipad with all my forums. I shut it down and restarted it yesterday and and now so far it seems to be holding its cookies.

    ring glueing jig

If the tape is easy to remove it should be put in a dish of soapy water to unload the glue from it.

    ring glueing jig

Nice thing about Earls jig is its easy to build. The cord needs replacing every so often as they get glue on them. He just came out with a quick resize jig for the cord the looks pretty solid and simple.

    ring glueing jig

Sounds like you are a distant cousin. Have you done any research on Ancestry.com? Theres a member there has a tree she calls Ancestors of David that could possibly link the lines.

    ring glueing jig

Likely theres a link somewhere. My immediate family was in Arkansas but the family tree shows links into the Carolinas and across the ocean into central England.

    ring glueing jig

Basic concept is similar to Earl Rasmussens rope jig. If your strap had grommets on the ends you could modify the tensioner with pins to hang the grommets on so you could quickly change to a different length belt.

That was a good save James, nice looking pattern.

    Feature ring building.

While you do that be sure your saw is exactly 90 degrees. A tiny amount of error will add up when many pieces are glued.

    Multi layered bowl

From reading up on the glue tests posted about recently the end grain glueups should do just fine, the shape of the piece will define how easy the joint breaks and a ring is pretty stable.

First piece using lam pro and set pro

    Saran wrap will fix that.
