Trying to change a wood species on a palette. Lloyd created a new "species" (another forum) and I want to add to my palette. He said to double-click the species I want to replace but nothing happens when I try this.
Do I have something locked that is preventing me from doing this? I cannot find...
How big is the piece and what is your wall thickness? 18 segs per ring should have good glue surfaces but again, depends on your piece.
I have and like to use various size discs at the tailstock with the live center.
You turn the inside first as you build up correct?
It is always a good idea to use tailstock support while turning the outside. A lot will depend on the size of the segments and how much glue surface area there is.

Thanks Lloyd

I understand that there are give and takes for a segmented platter.
Any tips or tricks in designing one? Minimal slope angle?
Well as Mike already stated, you need a gluing jig for best results. Otherwise more than likely you end up with ovals and not circles due to (assuming you are referring to hose clamps) clamping pressure.
Now, before I acquired a gluing jig I also glued the traditional way. What worked for me was...
24 seg per ring - 6" h x 9" wide
Woods used: Bloodwood, Bubinga, Canary, Cedar, Cherry, Limba, Maple, Mohagany, Oak, Olive, Purpleheart, Redwood, Walnut, Yellowheart and Zebra.
Palm wood for the spacers and Wenge for base and rim
Welcome to the club!
I have done these types of illusion before. If you are using WTP, in the top left section called "Row Details" where you have ID/OD row thickness ect - there is also a line called Vertical Spacers. Here you can enter the width of the vertical pieces to create the illusion...
