Diamond feature ring

Hi! I am new to Segment PRO and wanted to add the diamond feature ring that is available as a species. Where is the cut plan for this or do I need to create it in Lamination PRO using the dimensions provided for the feature ring? Thank you.

Hi Cheryl.
Sorry for the delay on responses. Was out of town for a few days.

WTP nor SP creates a cut list for a diamond segment ring. You could create it in LP. What is important is knowing the segment length you need for the featured ring which you would get from SP or WTP. You would need to adjust your strips in LP so the repeating unit is very close to or matches the desired segment length.

Jim Rogers explains a simple process for making diamonds for a featured ring.

You could also do a search for vids that give directions on how to create.

Thanks for the info mfisher. I will check out the link and search for some videos. I was able to get a similar diamond design in LP using the dimensions of the feature ring from SP but the blackwood diamond was larger than I would like. I like the look of the diamond feature ring in SP with a smaller black diamond. Thanks again for the reply and no need to apologize for the delay.

It would be interesting to know if anyone has made a video of how to make the diamond ring using the LP method.

Here is a link to a video tutorial that shows making a diamond pattern using the SW Design tool. The diamond part of the tutorial starts at about the 8:30 mark.

This is a great way to make a diamond because it gives you great control over how large you want the diamond to be. Here's the link:

I have tried to ask a few questions - but no reply yet!?

I don't know what is right to do. I started a conversation under your name!

OK found your question. Sorry for not responding. I don't go to the profile page often.

"want to ask you what kind of Zyliss equipment do you show in your video about Diamonds?
I have been working on my setup(from Bob Beaumont) since the winter. Had to stop for some months as of illness. Now I am back and want to continue the setup and was looking at the segment videos and yours."

The vid I linked in this thread is not mine. It is one I found that explains how to make diamonds. So I can't answer what type of equipment is in the vid.

Title: Using Lamination PRO with Segment PRO
Hi Lloyd! Using the SW design tool is a very helpful tip. I am using that to create a diamond pattern for a feature ring and have been unable to resolve one issue. How do I get more space between the diamonds? I have set the repeating unit length in Lamination PRO to the SEL called for in Segment PRO but the diamonds are either too close together or are touching as in the attached picture. What adjustments do I need to make to get more spacing between? I prefer the more square look like the top sample vs. the diamond shape in the bottom sample.

In LP using the southwest design make sure the "strips" is set to zero.
Then you can adjust the Center Strip (Blue) to increase or decrease the diamond shape.

Yes, I have the strips set to zero. I’ll try adjusting the center strip. Thanks!

Cheryl,

As Mike said, adjusting the center strip does all the magic. One thing to consider, though - as you increase the width of the center (blue) strip, the diamond gets narrower so I always start by making the center strip of the lamination wider to accommodate for the extra amount of that strip that will be removed in the center strip.

I always save that center strip into a box of center strips. I almost always find a way to use them as a border or a pen blank or anything else that comes to mind.

What do I need to adjust to get more spacing between the diamonds (where the pencil is pointing)? I have tried increasing the SEL more than what is needed without success. Thanks!

Cheryl,
Increasing the blue center strip will make the diamonds smaller and this will result in more space between the diamonds. However, it is likely to make the small diamond in the center disappear. If this happens and you still want that small diamond, go back to the Laminate Wizard and make the white (holly?) strip narrower. While you do this, experiment with changing the width of the first and last strip and see how that changes the overall size of the diamond.

This is all trial and error. You can change the shape of the diamond by changing the angle and this will cause the width of the diamonds to shrink or expand. If you want the diamond to be square, leave the angle at 45 degrees and adjusting the blue center strip will make the diamond larger or smaller but the width of the strips and the repeating unit will only change if you change the First Cut Width.

Experiment with changing these things and you'll see what happens when you change the various parameters. You will soon be able to dial in the exact results you're after.

Thanks for the helpful tips Lloyd. I think I’m on about version 6 of trial and error but will keep adjusting. Thanks again!!!

Results of all the trial and errors.
