• Are you looking for a coupon code to buy my software? You can get one from lots of 3rd party sites but they won't work. My software never goes on sale and has never been discounted. The only coupon codes that are given is when I give a club presentation and I offer a discount to the attendees. Other than that, everyone pays the same price.

Open Segment Project "Interwoven"

This is about how much glue I have been using. What do other open segmenters think. I need to get one of those Babybot glue bottles. I use a solder flux brush, seems to work ok.

Not sure if I had show my cutting sled that was modelled from the one that Brent had show earlier in this thread.

Works really good and adjusting the SEL is easy with a feeler gauge. Who would have thought woodworking you could use feeler gauges and digital calipers. Now when you measure something and it's off by .001 you try to get it better!

Glenn:
thanks for posting the close up photo of your jig while gluing a segment.
Helps me better understand the construction process.

I've been using a syringe to apply glue for open segment work. As you know it only takes a very small amount of glue to do the job and accurately placing it minimizes cleanup.

The syringe is plastic tube with a curved tip. Name is Monojet curved 412. Available on Amazon today for $5.29 for a package of five.

Thank you Art, that is certainly a good option. Do you clean these out after each row?

Row 10 has been flattened, then marked for the inside diameter. I then sanded the corners off and used my small Easy Wood carbide cutter to shape the inside. Done very slowly as I have lots of time.

Now to cut segments again. I have a small repair to do to my sled first.

Glenn, beautiful work. I'm starting on my jig today. Received the lazysusan yesterday. I know about slow and steady, my motto has been, "patience my @$$ I want it now." But I am working on the patience.

Thank you Dennis. This is only my second open segment piece. My first was 12 segments per row and 11 rows high. The William Smith starter piece!! All I'm saying is that I have to take it very slow, especially when chisel meets wood.

The last mod I made to the jig has helped enormously.

I usually put enough glue in for 2-3 rows. Which isn't a lot. When I'm done with a row I put the syringe in a small container of water. A yogurt container or something similar, tip down in the water. The prevents the glue from drying in the tip for the time it takes for the ring to be ready for the next row. Over night, I do empty the cylinder as much as possible and leave the cylinder without the plunder in water. The next day or whenever I get back, lt's easy to clean out the little remaining to start fresh.

Thanks Art. I will look into these.

The plan today is hopefully to add a row if I have enough lumber milled. Then I will mill lumber while I watch the glue drying (not really) and have two more rows of segments cut and ready to go.
